Chicago is the GREATEST rock group EVER.

Nothing to discuss.

Anyone ever go to one of their concerts? Only time I've ever seen 'em was on a public tv fund drive concert special.

Edited to add: Golden Earring comes in second.

1. I never cared for their stuff.
Golden Earring on the other hand had some cool albums.

2. I probably have gone to 7 or 8 concerts
mostly at the Canadian National Exibition, Toronto, during the 70's late August, just before Labour Day. The CNE would have GREAT show bands I saw a lot of the Beach Boys, too. Great hot August nights.

I always liked Chicago, starting with CTA.

I can't say they are the greatest though.

They are not Jethro Tull, and are therefore ineligible for that honour.

4. Er, no.
I liked their early stuff, but they degenerated into bland pop after their guitarist died.

Golden Earring? One hit wonder? Runner up for greatest ever?

5. Golden Earring has been a group since 1968.
In Europe, they're beyond superstar status. And they've had more than just one hit-- another one that comes to mind is their Twilight Zone...

7. Moontan was their best album.
But they must've had a dozen good albums.

19. Get their live concert cd
"Last Blast Of The Century"

They're going strong. Best song on the cd (imho) is "Long Blond Animal".

Trust me. I've been listening to music since 1955.

6. Like what you like, but...
I believe they jumped the shark when they decided to become Peter Cetera's backup band.

9. If you say so
Chicago did some wonderful things but "greatest" is very subjective.

12. Um, No.
I can think of at least six rock groups greater, and in no particular order:

The. Beatles. (emphasis intentional)
Cream
Led Zeppelin
The Who
The Doors
The Band

Don't get me wrong, I like Chicago, although I can't say I've kept up with them.

13. *yawn*
(Just kidding)

Not bad, but except for The Who and The Beatles, they're all neophites in comparison.

You forgot Pink Floyd. Now THEY may be in the running!

died way too soon, and tragically.

17. I'll say one of the greatest
I've admired them since 71. I liked the live horns and winds in the early albums best. But I am not a fan of their lovey-dovey hits though.

My first live concert to see Chicago was last year, their joint gig with Earth, Wind and Fire. Now that was a cool show, those two bands should have paired up decades ago!

20. I love Chicago
They'd probably have a better reputation with many (though the music critics have always hated them anyway) if they'd stopped after Kath died or somewhere around Hot Streets, but I like music from all phases of their career. They did some good Top 40 pop stuff in the eighties, and some decent albums, though I do like their seventies albums more. Chicago II and V are a couple of my all-time favorite albums, VII has some awesome jazz on it, and VIII is their most underrated album, IMHO. I've never gotten to see them live, but would like to.

22. I Never Really Cared For Chicago That Much
They were more pop than rock. The Doors were my favorite.
