Poll question: Most under-rated movie?
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 03:33 PM by Seabiscuit
Just saw "The Other Sister" again. My wife and I love that movie and think it's sad it never did well in the box office and that it's rarely played on TV.

The cast isn't stellar, but it's good: Giovanni Ribisi, Juliette Lewis, Diane Keaton, Tom Skeritt... but Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi put in amazing performances as very young "retarded" adults who struggle with the word "stupid", with learning about sex, with growing up and seeking independence, with attending a college for "regular" students, and with falling in love.

Juliette Lewis puts in a very fine performance but IMHO Giovanni Ribisi completely stole the show with his rendition of his character. In fact, I would venture to say that not only was it his finest performance ever, he played his character as well as or better than Dustin Hoffman played an "idiot savant" in "Rainman". I guess "Rainman" did well in the theaters because it had two big Hollywood names in it: Hoffman and Tom Cruise, plus a side-trip to Vegas. But I still like "The Other Sister" better.

2. Time Rider: The Adventure Of Lyle Swann
I think this is a cool movie. Fred Ward is a cross-country motorcycle racer that accidently rides through a corporation's time displacement experiment in the desert, and he gets sent back to the old west, on his bike. Peter Coyote is the evil outlaw/antagonist who is trying to get his hands on "that machine."

Michael Nesmith does the soundtrack.

B-)

3. I guess this is a difficult poll to get responses to because
either you didn't see "The Other Sister" or you saw it and either you completely agree with me, or it forces you to take time to think about some relatively obscure movie you once saw, perhaps long ago, which you could write about as qualifying in your mind as "most under-rated".

Oh, well.

7. The Captain from Koepenick (underrated in US)
Good German flick ridiculing Prussian (and by implication) all militarism. And worship of the Uniform. Funny and poignant too. Available in subtitles.
