What are your secrets for looking young?
I don't smoke, and wear hats and sunscreen in the summer. As a result I have a pretty nice complexion for a gal in her 40s--a tad dry but barely a trace of any lines. Any other simple advice for keeping that youthful complexion?

I don't look my age. They don't believe me when I tell them I have a 27 y/o son.

What does a 52 y/o look like anyway?

Makes me feel good when they say I don't look older than early 40's...smile.

Jeez, I'm at the point that according to *'s privitization plan, I'll never see Social Security even tho I've been contributing to the program since the late 60's. (Ya gotta be 55 today to receive benefits according to what I've been reading)

It amazes me how many people slather their face with grease in an attempt to hydrate it. Hydration from within works wonders.

I do wear a moisturizer when I go out but more as a barrier to keep other stuff off my face. At home I keep it clean & well watered.

I'm also a gal in her 40's with barely any lines.

When he wakes up in the morning, he fills his bathroom sink with ice water and soaks his face in it for three minutes (not all at once, take breaks to breathe). This is a true story told by his wife.

I can see how that might work, by sealing up the pores and contracting the skin, or whatever.

I smoke, drink, have led a very...*adventureous* life, don't really avoid the sun per se and never wore sunscreen until the last couple years (and even at that I'm lazy about it). I'll be 38 on Tuesday and was just carded for smokes on Monday. :D

Thanks, genetics! :hi:

edited to add: While I certainly don't look my age, I don't necessarily think I look all that *young*...I'm quite sure the fact that I'm small (5 ft), have baby-fat chubby cheeks, and act like Beavis most of the time probably plays a big part in the *youthful* appearance. ;)

58. 1: GOOD GENES
seriously, my grandmother at 80 did not look her age, and even at 102 did not look her age.

My dad looked younger too.

also: never smoked

started wearing sunglasses routinely at a young age, and I always bought the wraparound kind when I could find them
quit doing the sun thing at around 21 or so (as a child of the fifties, I thought a good tan was THE THING, which my fair skin would not do, so I just gave up)
started in with sunblock when it became available
wear hats in the sun
drink lots of water
used a moistureizer even though skin is oily ...around eyes ! (my skin used to drip oil, another plus for younger looking skin even if it is annoying)
never go to bed w/makeup on

So now I am 56 and I don't have crow's feet or wrinkles.

I now use a highquality moistureizer for day w/ SPF 25 and when I wear foundation, it has SPF 15 and I use a gel based moistureizer at night and an eye cream too.

did I mention drink water???

65. Here's what works for me
I'm now 42 and look easily 10-12 years younger. My best trick is to apply moisturizer in the eye, upper lip and mouth crease areas immediately after your shower, while the skin is still wet. The water helps the skin absorb the moisturizer much better than applying it to dry skin.

No sun worship - period.

Don't smoke - ever. Go easy on the alcohol.

Drink nothing but water if you can stand it. Okay, I do have a good, strong cup of coffee in the a.m., but after than that, it's all water, all the time. And it really works.

Take a fish & flaxseed oil capsule every day, along with a really good multivitamin. Since I have started doing this, the dry areas on my face have vanished.

Instead of regular foundation makeup, wear tinted moisturizer in small amounts (Revlon SkinTints is a great one). Also, any other makeup you wear (blush, etc.) should be cream based rather than powder based. Makes a huge difference. If you use an eyelining pencil, make sure it's a creamy one that doesn't drag across the skin. Also, when applying any makeup, use gentle upward strokes - never rub downward.

Try to resist the urge to sleep on your side - it creates and enhances crow's feet and under eye wrinkles. If you sleep flat on your back, you'll prevent most eye wrinkles - really!

Wash your face each a.m. with a non-drying facial cleanser and use a gentle Buf-Puf sponge to exfoliate (the peach colored one, not the white one). I find that doing this completely eliminates the need to use any facial masks or special treatments. It's basically at-home microdermabrasion. Cheap and effective.

73. Same as you
I've never smoked or sunbathed, and I've been wearing hats in the summer for years.
