Actually, I am a big fan of self-deprecating humor and use it quite often. Last weekend I ran into a friend I hadn't seen for a few months, during the conversation she was explaining to her new boyfriend how impressive she thinks my grasp of high-tech stuff is (to her) and I interjected by saying that I was a real idiot-savant. And she agreed with me! That was enough to make me laugh.

I agree, Jimmy Carter is the best. I have had him as my avatar as long as we have had them on DU. I've been tempted to change, as others have, from time to time, but just couldn't think of anyone better. I've had him as mine except for the "I voted" one back in November.:-)

As for Shirley Chisholm, my Dad, though a Republican, happened to meet her, and spend some time with her, and was so impressed with her that he became a lifelong admirer of hers. We have lost a great early leader, with her passing.;(
