3. Heh. I got teargassed the hard way
Fortunately, I was in Eugene, OR, and I ran into some old-time hippies. They hosed me off and gave me a dry shirt and some anti-histimines, told me not to rub my eyes for a few days, and fed me a vegan supper while I got my balance back. I had gotten a long way from campus, and I was damned lucky I didn't get hit by a car or something.

2. Yes and it is awful
In the fall of 1984, the K-zoo po-lice teargassed my whole neighborhood to allegedly prevent a street party and the underage drinking associated with it. We tried to hide inside from it, but it seeped into the apartment.

It worked, because it effectively ended the annual traditional Lafayette Street Party for good.

4. In Navy boot camp.
Everyone gets gassed at some point. Forced to sit in a small room with a TG mask on, then they start the gassing, then when the air is thick, they make you remove the mask for a minute. I remember it being one of the worst experiences of my life.

17. yes.
Luckily I was with a group of friends that included two 6' plus guys who protected me from being knocked down.

Nothing like ending an evening with watering eyes and snot running out of your nose.

Pissed me off because it cut short King Missile's set.

11. yes, my Dad used to keep a can of it in his car
in the thingy between the seats, somehow it got dislodged and went off in the car when me and my sister were in it with him, we were on the highway, rte 128 in waltham ma to be exact. His car at the time was a mercury capri, very small and the back window only opened out a little bit, it was awful.

16. Why did he keep in his car?
He used to be a project manager and site supervisor on construction jobs and there were a lot of people that would come to the site and try and steal things, mostly copper pipe, i think he kept it for that reason and i'm pretty sure the only time he ever sprayed was that one time in the car.

12. Twice-Once at Va.Tech and once in the Army
The Va.Tech one-some ROTC guy got kicked out of a party at the apartment across the landing/hall so he returned and tossed a teargas grenade onto the landing in the open air staircase. Prior to that I would have never guessed that 12 could all stick their heads underwater in a bathtub at the same time. A buddy of mine was passed out already on a couch right by the front door, he never woke up.

The second one was in the Army. I was the 6th in a group of 15. We had to our name, rank, and social security number-I have NO IDEA how the last guy made it.

14. Actually, yes, in Kiev, Ukraine, 1990.
I got asked by a couple of Ukrainian students to march in the Ukrainian independance parade, so I did.

Walked about 1/4 mile, then saw the riot police firing tear gas grenades into the crowd. I only caught a whiff of it, but the danger was the crowd... they were stampeding. So I grabbed the two guys who got me into it and ran to the edge of the square, where there was a recessed doorway we could hide in.

And I thought my father's explanation of what to do when tear-gassed would never have a practical use...
