Help! Need to get rid of a cold sore and fast!!
I hate these things! I've had it for two days now, and I've been using Abreva about 5 times a day. Anyone have any idea how long it'll take to go away or what I can do to make it go away sooner? Thanks in advance! :)

5. 3 or 4 days, but I use Vicks Vapo rub
that has always seemed to work for me. I know it's wierd but it works. I put on when I first feel the tingle/itch of a cold sore coming on.

7. if your...
underarm deodorant contains aluminum zircolate (most do), apply it to your fever blister. Dries them up very quickly. A registered nurse clued me to this back when I was a teenager prone to fever blisters.

17. If that would work, then I'd bet regualr alum from the spice
cabinet would work too. Alum is used for pickeling and if you've ever tasted it, is very drying. You could make a little paste and blend with your makeup for the day. Now I got to look in my home medicine book to see what they say.

14. yeah lots of lysine systemically
and topically, there is a product called "Sting Stop" you can get at health food stores. It's made by a complany called B &T and costs about 8-10 bucks for a large tube.

I just guessed and used it on my son's chicken pox (similar virus) and they disapeared after one application.

It's got Echinachea and citronella in it and is really amazing.

20. Here's what my book say about it.
Keep the cold sore clean and dry

Replace your tooth brush. your toothbrush can harbor the herpes virus for days, reinfecting you after the present cold sore heals

Don't keep your toothbrush in the bathroom. A nice wet toothbrush in a moist environment helps prolong the life of the virus on your toothbrush

use small tubes of toothpaste. toothpaste can transmit the disease when the brush comes in contact with the tube.

Protect with petroleum jelly, but don't dip back into the jelly with the same unwashed finger

Zap it with zinc. Studies show that zinc helps the healing

Lick it with Lysine. If you have 3 or more per year, supplimenting your diet with Lysine may reduce the number of cold sore you get during a year.

Freeze dry it. applying Iice when you first feel the itch and it may reduce inflamation.

Dab on witch hazel

Avoid argine-rich foods. The herpes virus needs arginine as an essential amino acid for it metabolism. so cut out arginine rich foods such as chocolate, cola, peas, grain cereals, peanuts, gelatin and cashews and beer.

(ok, I think the above is taking it too far and if we have to give up this stuff there will no longer be a reason for living)

21. Instant coffee.

You take a little instant coffee in the palm of your hand, barely moisten it and mix it into a thick sticky paste, and put it on the cold sore. It looks horrible, but it always worked for me. A woman I worked for told me about it and I've never tried anything else.

22. Saurkraut Juice
If the sore is in your mouth just swish your mouth out with saurkraut juice 3 or 4 times a day. If on your lip, apply the juice with a q-tip. It should cut your healing time in half.
