This is Maddy McCall's son posting:
I have almost 80 pets, but most of them are birds in our farm. Here's what I have:

2 Dogs
1 Cat
2 Lizards
3 Frogs
2 Bunnies
7 Chickens
7 Ducks
28 Quails
25 Guineas

I wanted my mom to post this but she said no and told me to post it myself.

It must be fun to have all those animals. I have a dog, three cats, and a tortoise.

I'd love a duck, though. Are the ducks fun?

Do they eat lots of bugs? What kind of ducks and chickens do you have?

38. I'm back...It's me, Maddy.
I wanted to answer your question--son went outside. Yes, the guineas eat loads of bugs. They can pretty much live on the bugs around here, but I also feed them chops (chopped corn) and laying pellets--we're hoping the lay some eggs.

We have Indian Runner ducks and BB Red and Kelso chickens and roos. Both breeds of chickens are gamers, but we definitely don't pit them. We keep them as pets. The guy from whom we bought the Kelsos does pit them. He had some Grays for sale--the stag (rooster in gamer talk) was missing an eye and one of his spurs had been trimmed so that he could wear a metal spur. That's so abusive that I can't stand to see it, so when I saw the Kelso pair--the roo and hen are really young and the roo hadn't been pitted yet-- I bought them more to rescue him than for any other reason.

22. Don't ever put neons in a tank with anything else!
They have "dinner" written all over them!

My stepdaughter once put a little Brim that she caught in a lake into the goldfish tank. Within two days, the Brim ate all but two of the goldfish. The two survivors had their tails eaten off and could only swim vertically until their tails grew back. The very well-fed Brim was promptly taken back to the lake

If Mississippians have a meet-up, he will have to attend. He knows so much about Rowdyboy, and Melodybe, and even some of the Alabama and Florida DUers.

You're going to be only about 2 hours south of me. We'll work something out.

Are y'all going to stay in NO on Friday night? If so, we might drive down--I've been wanting to take MMjr. to the Big Easy for quite a while.

My grandmother is really ill right now--in Texas--we're driving over tomorrow to see her. If I'm not in Texas because of that, then we'll have to get together.

46. Yeah, and probably really close to where I'll be.
My grandmother fell and broke her femur on Monday. She's 92 and the surgeon won't operate because she's having congestive heart failure. My mom is over there...called this morning to tell me that her pulse was 142, and that her doctors don't think she'll pull out of it.

I'm going to Texas tomorrow with my dad and son to visit my grandmother for what might be the last time, if she makes it through the night. We will be coming home Saturday or Sunday morning. I hate to sound morbid, but we may be in Texas for a funeral next week.

My grandmother has had a full, wonderful life, but she's been bedridden for the past three years. She broke her femur getting out of bed by herself in the middle of the night. She has all of her mental facilities, and I've kind of wondered to myself if she's ready to go. She's a strong Christian lady who lost her husband when she was 45. She might be ready to be with him. Either way, I hate for her to suffer as she has.

I've been on DU the past couple of days kind of passing time while I wait for more information. I wanted to go to Texas on Tuesday, but my mother asked me to please stay home with my Dad and take care of him...but Dad wants to go tomorrow, so we're going.

I know I don't have to ask you to do this, but please send good thoughts and prayers my grandmother's way. I am not praying for her to pull through, but for her to have the solution she desires, even if it means leaving this life so that she can go on to be with her husband, as her religion tells her she will.

:hugs:

49. Thank you.
Yes, it will be tough to no longer have her in our lives. My son is most upset, though, because he is having a hard time understanding that her passing actually might be what she wants.

He thinks that we will never go back to Texas if she passes. I've told him, though, that we have many, many relatives in Texas, and we will certainly continue to visit them.

:loveya: and thanks for the well wishes.

30. Are guineas really noisy?
I've thought of geting some, but my husband can barely tolerate Arnie our rooster crowing. Arnie is rather a wuss for a rooster since I picked him up regular when he was little to make sure he stays non-agressive, but he does crow.

32. It's me, Maddy.
And YES, the guineas are very noisy. All day it's "buckwheat, buckwheat, chi, chi, chi!" Yesterday, we finished a guinea house way away from our house so that the noise wouldn't be so deafening.

My son loves to handle the banty rooster. He lets my son hold him on his back...he lays on his back in my son's hands. It's enchanting to watch him with the animals.

He goes to the guinea house and sits on the ground and feeds them Cheerios. :-)

Really, though, I love the guineas, and they are great to have to keep the yard free of insects (ticks!) and snakes.
