Steve Martin to play new Clouseau?
<snip>:

Hollywood star Steve Martin is lining up to play Inspector Clouseau in a remake of The Pink Panther, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The comic actor is expected to make a decision about the project shortly, after talks with movie studio MGM.

Ivan Reitman is producing the remake and is also expected to direct it. His previous directing credits include Evolution, Kindergarten Cop and Dave.

I would have thought this would be one for Jim Carrey or Leslie Nielsen - always loved his Agent WD40.......

1. Ed Norton would have been good, too.
Steve will RULE, though.

2. No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No!
Peter Sellers is, was, and always will be Clouseau. You can't remake a film whose central character is so inextricably linked to the actor who portrayed him. Clouseau and Sellers are indivisible. You might as well remake "Stripes," with Freddie Prinze Jr. in the Bill Murray role. Grrr.

3. Quite right! Do not blasphemise! Remember Stallone's shitty remake of
one of the all-time film greats, "Get Carter"? Leave Closeau alone!

Can you just imagine

"new and improved (childrens approved) CLOSEU (now named Freedom detective), where the clumsy freedom detective with a fun British accent (because they helped us in the war) takes on a stereotypical french bad guy, while also fighting his mexican gardener that he ordered to attack him from time to time"
