Poll question: Boston DUers vs. Chicago DUers: Who Can Drink More?
Edited on Wed Mar-09-05 10:17 AM by Kathy in Cambridge
My money is on Boston. Chicago DUers are more genteel than the nuts I've met at the People's Republik! :P

So who's your money on? Boston or Chicago?

77. Every city has its positives and negatives
For Boston and Chicago, the negative is the weather! x(

Seattle has far milder temperatures, but to tell you the truth, Boston and CHicago seem more cosmopolitan (from a business traveler's perspective). Not that it isn't beautiful, but I'm partial to older cities like Boston and Chicago, probably because the city that I grew up in is almost 400 years old. :-)

57. I'm pointing out that the things you highlight
are true for every major city. And several minor villages, as well.

As far as I know, it's not against the rules of these boards to fail to love the city of Chicago; or Detroit; or Cleveland; or even New York. I made no aspersions about the citizens of any city.

Insulting the depth of my character, however, was in my opinion a step too far on your part and more than a little uncalled for.

"There's not one damned thing to do in Chicago but drink until you're lipped."

That is a complete falsehood. Blue-Jay was correct in pointing that out. One does not get off the plane at O'Hare, get into a cab, and go into the third largest city in the United States and discover that "There's not one damned thing to do in Chicago but drink until you're lipped."

This St. Paddy's Day us Chicago Irish are going to drink those Boston pansies under the table! And if you don't like it me and the boys from the 19th Ward are going to come over to your quaint little street parade and show you what happens when you piss off the union. I hope nothing happens to those nice floats you got there.
While we're there we're also gonna show you Kerry people how to win an election, Chicago style!

#1 on FBI's most wanted list. He was the head of the Irish mob and has been on the lamb for over a decade.

BTW all the ethnic mobs are still going strong here, especially the Italian one.

We had the Effigies and Big Black and Naked Raygun and a the biggest mod scene outside of the UK, while you guys had Mission of Burma, the Real Kids, and Forced Exposure magazine (okay, it's in Waltham, but so what?)

Where I'd say that Chicago wins is that Chicago never produced any hardcore bands as lame as SSD or Slapshot.

And who's ever heard of BOSTON blues? Fuck, what is Blind Cod Lighthouse Jefferson gonna sing about, how is baby left him in the Hamptons?

We also had Ace of Hearts Records, Taang! and you failed to mention The Proletariat, which was a GREAT hardcore band.

We also had one of the earliest punk rock radio stations (WMBR) and the earliest COMMERCIAL alternative radio (WLYN/WFNX). Boston was at the forefront of alternative radio, while your local stations were playing Yes and Kansas. Here's a playlist from the olden days:

http://turntable.mit.edu/shows/lrc.15years.html

I was just telling JimmyJazz about seeing the Clash in 1978 (I was 14) at the Harvard Square theater. Boston was the first stop for many Brit bands.

And what do YOU know about punk rock? you're under 30! :P

I guess they just wanted an excuse to trash people from Chicago.

159. I wasn't.
Actually, I like Boston better than Chicago. I have more friends in Chicago, sure, but I prefer Boston.

That said, I don't much care for it when my friends get attacked because of where they happen to live.

I think the poster deserved it by changing the tone of the thread from goodnatured BSing to the 'my city is better than your city' crapola.

162. That's true
At least if today's newspaper was correct. Wisconsin was #1 in adult binge drinking. Cyndee_Lou posted a link to the article somewhere in this very thread. ;-)

178. Exactly. I learned to drink in Milwaukee.
Now that I'm in Chicago, it's like people here get drunk after 6 beers.

SIX BEERS!! What the hell?!? It takes me a whole 12-pack to get a little loopy. And that's good beer, too, not some cheap assed, watered down Budweiser.

I once consumed an entire bottle 3/4 liter) of Johnny Walker Black in 4 hours, and I didn't even have a hangover the next day.

Take that, Boston DUers!!

Having lived in both Boston and Chicago, I gotta hand it to Chicago if I must choose between the two. But for the real drinking action, take 294 North to Wisconsin. :)

And curse10 can probably outdrink most of the guys!

If I have more than one drink, I'd be wasted and will blow any chance the Boston team has of winning this dubious title.
