I had a sudden urge to scratch a graffitto into my desk at work
I don't quite know why.

I was thinking of going with the old-favourite from school of "I'm sitting here bored as hell, waiting for that fucking bell"; but as there is no bell here for which I could be considered waiting, it seemed a tad irrelevant.

2. Exactly
I think it's a 'back to work' thing; I was off ill last week, and so am not used to sitting here getting bored.

You are right, D.U. is the perfect antidote though.

3. Mondays are always hard
and esp. if you were off ill or on vacation. The Garfield quotation still fits "I hate Mondays"

4. You could always go with the perennial favorite

of teenage metalheads and stoners everywhere.

I'd scratch that into my desk but I own it so that doesn't work out so well for me. I'm sure your boss would appreciate and understand your passive aggresive display of boredom though.

5. Shockingly, I doubt my boss would appreciate it
Especially given that I'm not normally in on Fridays, and there's a bit of hot-desking with staff members from other offices.

6. Do you actually have a wooden desk?
How high class.

Carving space-age laminate and/or metal is too hard. And spray-paint graffitti would probably attract attention.

7. Laminate on chip-board
Using the point of a pair of compasses it's not too difficult, especially if you work with the grain. Then use a biro to ink in the hole.

That's what worked at school - not that I actually did any...
