So, "Office Space" in on television right now...on the Comedy Channel. as backround noise...and lo and behold...she's pretty much doing the same performance she had on "Friends".

Not a huge range of acting ability, I take it? :-)

7. I was ASTOUNDED at her performance in that effort
She knocked that one out of the park.

I think her problem is her vehicles...no one wants her to go too far off of her "spot." I think she should do a few more indies, and stretch a bit. She's got the stuff, she just isn't given the opportunity because her "fans" have expectations. You know how it is in shallow America, you are only allowed to do one thing, and when you do it too much, they call you a has-been. If you try to do something else, or do what you do in different fashion, they accuse you of being desperate.

There are only a few people who are allowed to roam all over the artistic map--everyone else has to fit into their little cubby, or else!

12. She was very good in The Good Girl
I think if she starts picking scripts with the same taste as, say, Johnny Depp, she could show us a lot.

2. I think you're right. Lisa Kudrow, however, is a great actress.
Did you see her in the movie "Opposite of Sex"? She was great.

4. I sure did. Lisa Kudrow was also terrific in "Wonderland"
with Val Kilmer as John Holmes. Lisa Kudrow was wonderful in that film, as well. She can do both comedy and drama.

3. Yes, but they keep forcing her on us.
She *will* be a movie star, dammit!

She *will*!

Which is quite unfortunate, really.

8. If she lands a demanding director who wants her for her actual talents
and not just her name she might surprise us.

But then there's a lot of acting talent like that.

Julia Roberts.

13. Exactly
I've had people look at me like I'm nuts when I mention that I think Julia Roberts is not really all that much of an actress. She pretty much plays the same character over and over again - her character in Erin Brockovich was identical to that in Pretty Woman which was identical to that in The Mexican which was identical to that in Ocean's Eleven.... etc. Not a lot of range there.

14. A lot of stars play the same character.

As someone said, that's America. They don't want to see Meg Ryan do a serious role. They don't want Cary Grant to be a villain.

Gwyneth Paltrow is usually an ice princess, etc.

I love Julia Roberts to pieces, and she's in fact my favorite actress...but I go back and forth on whether she is *good*. Her best work, IMO, was Notting Hill (I've not seen Closer).

She at least can pull box office.

Jennifer Aniston, not so much. Most of her roles could have gone to nobodys and it wouldn't have made a bit of difference.

10. I think she'll be fine as the learnes.
she can do comedy, thats the hard part. Drama is easier, and more fun for the actor. Michael Caine said almost that exact thing on the Actors Studio.

17. Isn't she always the "straight"?
Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 05:42 PM by tjdee
To be honest, I've not seen as much Friends as some people, though by some freak of nature I've seen a number of her films (not The Good Girl). She usually plays the straight off the zanier antics of the man, or the reactionary.

Comedy is *VERY* difficult to play--it must be hard to read 'the funny' in a number of scripts and play that--which is why it's such a shame that more comedic performances don't make it to the Oscars.

Ah well, there's always the Golden Globes.

18. What I hate is when people go "Bruce Almighty was a big hit" like
she had anything to do with that. I actually read that in an article about her. Her role could have been played by Marisa Tomei, Neve Campbell...ho hum.

She wasn't the draw to the picture, Jim Carrey was.

21. Object of My Affections
Interesting movie, a kind of coming-of-age story for a gay man who's a schoolteacher. Aniston plays what's essentially Grace to his Will, but there's some depth to the role. There's a scene where she almost seduces the guy, and she's considerably hot. The other thing that's worthwhile about her performance is, she breaks up with Dennis Miller!

Other than that, yeah, I think Aniston's a one-trick pony. Apparently she really was a waitress before her big break in Friends, and apparently she sought out the waitress role in Office Space.

22. I've been saying this for YEARS and finally someone agrees with me.
Jennifer Aniston, with the exception of "Good Girl", plays Rachel Green in every damned movie she's in. She has less range than Leo DiCraprio, if that's even possible. Same with Julia Roberts. Same with Drew Barrymore.

They just don't make 'em like Ellen Burstyn, Kate Hepburn or Maggie Smith anymore.

was written, it's pretty dark.

I'm wondering if the movie can be as interesting as the book was
