Guess where my puppy poops?
I posted about having trouble getting my pup to go poop on her paper not too long ago and got great advice... but it didn't seem to be working. I'd feed her, keep her confined to that room for 15 minutes and then take her for a walk. Nada.

It's closing on 10 pm here and there has been no poop all day. I start asking other family members, "Did you clean up Belle poop?" Nope.

I was in the kitchen (making a bowl of vanilla ice cream with hot fudge and marshmallow on top -- because it helps me think, dammit) when I see my pup heading into the kitty box. I figure that she's in there... well, those of you who have had dogs and cats know what I thought.

I go over to the box and bend over so I can see in the door... my pup was in there... POOPING!

I guess, as long as the cats don't mind, it's a good thing? Anyone ever had a dog use a cat box?

2. No, this is entirely wrong. The natural thing for dogs
is to go to the litter box to eat cat poop, not leave a deposit.

6. We call 'em "kitty crunchies"
What dog doesn't love a kitty crunchy appetizer or dessert?

We have a rule though: no eating the cat's food either before or after she's eaten it.

11. choco lab and a black lab who is a mixed breed
I actually have to have the KL box blocked by the vacuum cleaner so they won't go near it, the mix is deathly affraid of the vacuum cleaner. But once and a while the Choco will manage to get into it. We also use an all natural KL made out of corn 1)because the dust isn't healthy for us or the cat and 2) if the dogs eat it, the worst thing they are eating are the KC's.

3. What breed of dog is Belle?
My daughters and I have just about talked my wife into allowing us to get a dog. Belle looks like just the ticket. (Well, not Belle per se, but a reasonable facsimile will do).

5. She's a Cocker-Sheltie mix
I really adore her. She seems to be really intelligent and there is no doubt she wants to please us. She loves the kids and has been patient with our 2-yr-old.

The two worst things about her:

1) She's fairly yippy. She likes to bark at the cat, at the kids, at me, at toys, at the broom... you get the idea. She's definitely vocal.

2) She's quite needy. She hates to be left alone or kept confined and away from the rest of the family. As I sit here typing, she is curled up on my lap. She requires attention from her humans. :)

7. I could say don't look a gift horse in the mouth
Or the rear as it were. :P

But how big will she get? Will this habit be rather undesirable in 6 months or so? If so, you might want to nip it in the bud.

And nope - my dogs have never seen a litter box as anything other than a snack bar.

12. Doggie litter boxes and doggie litter can be purchased
I thought I'd remembered seeing them in dog supply catalogs. If you're interested in getting one for your pup, here are a couple websites.

http://www.doglitter.com

also the dog pad and liner

www.wizdog.com

Your puppy is such a good girl, she didn't want to dirty the floor and make more work for her Mommy.

13. May i recommend a book?
"Good owners, Great Dogs" By Brian Kilcommon. Even if you have been a dog owner all your life, this man has methods that WORK! He was a student of Barbara Woodhouse (now deceased, her trademark, high-pitched "Walkies" command made her famous) who was known for being able to take any dog out of the pound or whatever and having it sit, heel stay and come (In my opinion, ESSENTIAL commands that can save your dogs life) in moments. Using his methods allowed me to train my last Boston Terrier so well that he would heel and walk without a leash through crowds, sit and stay while i walked 150 yards away THROUGH the crowd and come with a hand signal, come to me, go around me and sit by my right side with one single sweep of my hand.

HIS METHODS WORK! I highly recommend his book.

15. Yesp--Barbara could make her dogs pee & poop on command--
she suggested you say "hurry up" while they're going...sounds better than "Make a poopie", etc. Once you cath the dog doing it right, act like she won the lottery and she'll have it all under control in no time!
