Anyone here work out regularly?
I joined a Curves-style work out program before Christmas, and I no longer have arm flaps. Pretty proud of myself, except I can no longer amuse myself in the mirror.

1. I did at one time,
I felt great. Stopped and worked out periodically. I need to get myself on a regular schedule.

3. Yep, 4 or 5 days a week.
Sometimes 6 if I'm feelin' good. When I first started, my mom (who works out all the time) told me that if I kept it up there would be a point where I would actually feel good about exercizing and wouldn't feel good if I didn't go. I thought she was lying, but it's true!

11. She's absolutely right.
I do not feel "right" if I skip my workouts. I was very sick and sleep deprived last Sunday, and I did not exercise. Even though I was sick, I *still* felt like something was missing because I didn't work out.

28. It is so true.
I've been working out 3-5 times a week for 15 years, but of course there are those times when I can't ... my sleep habits and mood are affected.

The biggest obstacle for me was mental, but once you get "used" to the routine, it becomes second nature and one of the best things about life.

6. I do Curves!
It's great - I've really improved my general health over the past two years.

It's helped both my stamina and my migraines. I do it on my lunch hour.

12. It really fits in w/ my lifestyle - 45 mintues and you're done
Though I have to admit I've been skipping a lot lately due to extreme pressure at work but I should be back to 3X a week by the end of the month. Now, if I could just find some convenient place to start swimming again...

7. I do.
I walk 30-40 minutes/day 5-6 days a week now that it's getting nice out. I need to get back to doing my free weights a couple times a week. Nothing real heavy but it tones the muscles.

19. I do, usually...
I'm currently without a gym membership (or the money to pay for one), but I still treadmill at home every other day.

I usually do an hour of freeweights three times a week...mostly upper body, because I get lots of leg exercise just walking all day everyday when I'm at work.

If you're pro-choice, you may want to read up on the Curves founder and the causes he supports.

used to work out 3 or 4 times a week; have stepped that up to 5 - 6 to include some weight training. I simply do not want a middle-age body. Because I am a chronic overeater I exercise for an hour. F*** going to a gym - I hate being around sweaty people, paying dues and the inconvenience of having to drive to work out. Got a step, free weights and lots of VCR tapes - presto, I can workout whenever I feel like it.

30. I've been a gym rat since adolescence.
I'm sure there's some muscle underneath all that Italian food I've been eating.

Exercise can get to be an addiction. You do it, you see results, and you keep doing it to get results. Since your health stands to benefit from regular exercise, it's a good addiction.

It sounds like a rare, "good addiction", like studying (which I should be doing now rather than posting on DU)!

39. You (and CubsFan too)
This is how it starts. Work out for about 6 weeks straight. Do it in a way that doesn't impact your schedule too badly, like 3-4 times a week and maybe 45 minutes or so at a time. Do something you enjoy, and vary it a little bit so it doesn't get boring.

Weights are more addictive, because you tend to see the results right in the mirror. You'll see cardio results on the scale, or you'll notice you can climb a lot more stairs before getting winded.

Something important - when you work out, focus on kicking your own ass. Skittles can help with this (the DUer, not the candy). If you spend 45 minutes working out and it feels like you were watching TV all that time, step up the intensity. My gym teacher said to us about Leg Day: it doesn't matter how much weight you can lift, as long as you can't walk when it's over. (But don't over-do it.)

After 6 weeks of kicking your own ass, you will see results, and once you see results, you're hooked. ZenLeftyGirl and I go to the gym 5 nights a week, and we've started doing some stuff outside the gym to supplement it (run, hike, yoga, etc.) If we have to miss a gym night, we can get really pissed about it, and think of ways we can add in an extra workout to make up for it.

32. I did a couple months ago, but I haven't recently.
I used to do 90 minutes of treadmill several times a week, but once I came back to college after break ended, I haven't really worked out.

I really wish my campus' wellness center had a whirlpool.

35. I try to.
I prefer to every single day. I mix up the routine every day-laps, treadmill, eliptical, stairclimber, bike, freeweights and I would like to add swimming and yoga soon.
I haven't gone in a couple of weeks-my schedule has been too busy. I am noticing a weight gain and I feel tired, compared to when I work out. I need to go back.
