3. hard to choose
the White Album has an amazingingly diverse collection, many of them downright classics...

one exception is "Glass Onion" -- strictly filler

26. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is a really great cut from that album!
The demo is so laid back in comparison to the finished, released version. Harrison is outside of London in his "demo" studio. He is using a nylon string guitar (classical) with nothing else. In the demo there is additional verse which is not in the released version. The morning before the Beatles were going to do some work on that track, George and Eric Clapton were riding around London before the session. George was trying to get Clapton to play the main guitar part. Eric was very hesitant because of a respect for the Beatles "space". Eventually, Clapton was greeted with open arms by the rest of the Beatles in the session. The great "crying" guitar part was on that track as a result of the friendship between George and Eric Clapton.

I have always considered that to be one of the top five tracks of that album; I have others!

:-)

28. "Sexy Sadie" is actually about the disappointment of Lennon...
regarding the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. John had seen, in his eyes, that the Maharishi was somewhat of a phony. Musically, it is very fun to play; as the song musically is intertwined in an endless circle.

8. Humor Aside
My mother always disliked "Why Don't We Do It in the Road". :-)

I preferred the 2nd side, which had:

Martha My Dear (about a dog)
I'm So Tired (blues)
Blackbird
Piggies
Rocky Raccoon (funny)
Don't Pass Me By (one of Ringo's finer moments)
Why Don't We Do It in the Road?
I Will (nice love song)
Julia (nice way to remember your mom)

22. "Dear Prudence" is about Lennon and an obscure relationship with...
Prudence Farrow, Mia's sister. During the time that the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's site in Rishikesh was building up his "entourage" of "students", John went to her cottage to have her start mixing with the other people there. She had been in her cottage for about three weeks meditating.

17. Okay for starters, "Strawberry Fields Forever".
(I told you 'bout Strawberry Fields,
You know the place where nothing is real)

Then, "The Fool On the Hill" (I tell you man he's living there still)

"Fixing a Hole" (in the ocean)

That's all I got right now...

Drawing a blank on the rest of the lyrics

But I agree with the other poster that Glass Onion is kinda lame compared to the rest of the album but still fun.

30. Lennon did an interview for 'Playboy" a short while before his death..
When asked about "'I Am The Walrus", Lennon had indicated that it wasn't until after he had written the song, that he had realized that the Walrus was really the "bad guy". I have always been skeptical about how open Lennon was in some of his interviews; sometime it seemed like a lot of double talk to me; perhaps because of many reasons.

were so much, all, a part of the "machine" that produced some really great music of the times. Martin really never was substantially financially rewarded for his expertise.

I might suggest a great read: "All You Need Is Ears" by Sir George!

Released in 1998, the artists and selection of Beatle written songs was sooooo fine! I loved them all, especially the simple guitar work by a great former "Yardbird" Jeff Beck on "A Day In A Life"!

The whole CD was excellent!

49. Aaaaahhhh... there is nothing better than the Beatles...
There music is so pure and pristine, like an azure sky of deepest summer... turn 'em on, and it's as if some great bird of heaven-spun metal had flown into the room, and ya feel all those malanky little hairs on the back of your plot standing endwise...
Music is magic. Music is the best.
I live in Cleveland, and it's a beautiful day today, very sunny and warm... I'm listening to Traffic myself--John Barleycorn, to be followed by The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys (which title track is one of my favorites of all time)...
Glad I found this post; The Beatles will be next now... man, those were the days... Stevie Winwood's magic and sadly forgotten voice (who remembers Blind Faith? The Spencer Davis Group?)... Clapton with Cream, The Beatles, Joplin & Hendrix & Morrison...
The Beatles, though... they are simply the best. They are like psylocibin; you listen to them and the universe simply shines and glimmers and smiles down at you and you connect with its incredible beauty and goodness once again...
I don't mean to sound like an old fart, but it's sad that the kids these days (I DO sound like an old fart!), they don't even know... I've talked to kids who don't LIKE The Beatles, and I think, yaaarghh!... that's like not liking when the sun shines!...
The Beatles are the Sun Kings. They are invincible. They will never die.
