NEED HELP! - on debugging a printer.
Someone out there hopefully can give us some idea about what is wrong with this printer.

We bought a new HP 6210 printer/scanner/fax yesterday. I want to use it for printing digital photos, scanning, etc. We had an old Lexmark but it gave out. It printed pretty nice pictures while it was working. So we install the new printer and I print some pictures from my Photoshop Album. They all have streaks down the right side of the picture. We try all the fixes but it keeps doing it. We take the printer back and exchange it for another one.

Same exact thing happens. Streaks down the right side of the picture. So I think it must be something in my computer that's doing it. To test this out we make a copy of a good photograph using just the printer, not the computer. Same thing happens, streaks down the side of the picture. This makes no sense to me. These were two different printers but the streaks came out in the same place.

Any ideas before I throw the damn thing through my window?

1. Sometimes the roller that move the paper will leave marks
Try a different kind of paper. If the ink doesn't dry fast enough, or if you have it on too high a resolution, the rollers will leave tracks.

2. I tried a different paper
Switched from a high gloss to a semi-gloss. I'll try printing on a lower resolution and see if that helps.

Thanks.

4. Yes, sometimes the high res
just puts too much ink for the paper. Also try a matte paper or just regular old paper, if you are still getting streaks, it may not be the rollers. Also go to the help or FAQ online for your printer. I bet you are not the only one having these problems.

5. I tried lower resolution
and the photo just looked like crap with lines all over. This was the "Normal" setting.

Now I'm trying a gloss paper set on "Best". I did this before and I don't think it changed much.

It almost seems like there is some flaw in that particular model since the streaks are in the same place on 2 different machines.

Well, my last test came out the same - streaks down the right hand side about 3 inches in from the edge. Damn it.

6. Well, try some online help
If that doesn't work, scream bloody hell and take the printer back. (Not necessarily in that order.) And get an epson. I swear by Epson. I swear at HP.

3. sounds like a dirty ink cartridge
maybe you're inadvertently touching the business end of the ink cartridge when you install it?

when i put it on best...it improved with each picture so my guess is it is some kind of leakage. mine still has streaks...am beginning to think lexmark makes a better printer...if you can still take it back i would get a lexmark
