I've decided to take a maximum two year college course as soon as I can, to begin a new career by the time I'm 40.
I want to work with my hands, and/or do something good for society.
So these are my choices... which do you prefer?
DFO (Department of Fisheries and Oceans) Enforcement Officer:
Pros: get to wear cargo pants and carry a pistol, play with lights and a siren, and work in nature. Not actually "The Man". Good for the environment. Sweet civil servant perks and benefits.
Cons: it's a full two-year course. Long periods away from urban areas and my home. Poison ivy and being eaten by bears are constant occupational hazards. Listening to endless annecdotes by rural bait salesmen.
Welder:
Pros: I already have the preliminary college course under my belt, it's a nine-month course, and I can make my own suits of armour. Jobs are always out there.
Cons: I kind of suck at it, and being blown up, poisoned, and blinded are occupational hazards. Also, it's kinda messy.
CNC Machinist:
Pros: subsidised, one-year course. Cleaner environment than welding.
Cons: I would probably have to relocate for steady employment. Not sure what "CNC" stands for.
Charity Fundraiser:
Pros: No formal training required. Good for society. Lots of free cocktail parties and passes to things.
Cons: Not much money in it. Having to raise money from "ladies who lunch".
