Poll question: 'Collapse' or 'The Republican Noise Machine' for my next Audible listen
I have a 2 hour commute a day in my Insight. I have an Audible credit, should I "rent":

"The Republican Noise Machine: Right-Wing Media and How it Corrupts Democracy" by David Brock (Unabridged)

"Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed" by Jared Diamond (Abridged)

I can always pick up the other next month...

of chapters he hits his stride nicely.

Warning, though--you may have to pull over a time or two for a SERIOUS :wtf: moment*.

*As in how nasty, evil, underhanded, criminal, and just generally awful can the Republicans be...

3. I vote for "Collapse".
Diamond is brilliant and lucid, and the points he raises have much greater and broader-ranging implications for our society as a whole than yet another tome filled with US-specific partisan rancor...you already know the right-wingers are evil, brain-damaged scum; how many times do you really need to hear it?

4. I heard him on Bob Edwards a week or so ago
He was fantastic, and the book sounds great!

Easter Island has always been such an incredible mystery.

5. I've been re-reading "Guns, Germs and Steel", myself, lately.
Also recommended if you haven't checked it out...an examination of the available resource and agricultural base of given societies to explain disparities in cultural and civilisational advancement.

7. Regarding "Noise," the beauty of it is that he tells us how it's
being done and offers ways to stop it.

Both are worthy, obviously. "Noise Machine" will be out in PB very shortly; if that helps (I'm in the book biz).

8. Plus he's got the inside scoop.
Brock and Huffington are both very good resources because they both worked on the other side for so long.
