14. Murder Mystery weekend

We had a blast!!! I was supposed to be an Indian medicine man, so RIGHT before we went to the graveyard, the hostess of the mystery told me I'd be eulogizing someone in my "native tongue." I was pretty loaded at the time, so I didn't have much trouble. ;)

It's from about a year and a half, two years ago, my band played a party at an art gallery (it was fuckin' bumpin', too, wish you could tell from this pic), and a friend of mine nabbed this shot of me in the time-honored Gregg Ginn pose.

after I looked again, I thought, damn that's a Strat. Do you have a Telecaster, or will I regreat asking? Maybe it was the intensity of the look on your face while you were playing - that made the comparison for me. I always think people I don't know look like people I do, some kind of mental cataloguing I guess. and type the url into the "post message" field here on DU. Unless it's on a domain that doesn't allow hotlinking (geocities and tripod, for example), it should just show up, no extra code necessary. If you don't have any web server space through your ISP, there are sites like photobucket.com that'll let you host and hotlink photos.

For Observation Hill. It's in McMurdo Station Antarctica--which is why ther is zero vegetation.

It was about a fifteen minute walk up a 40 percent grade--not tricky, just hard! I think it was about 10 below when I did this. Exerting myself in deep cold can kinda constrict the broncial tubes :(

Raytheon Polar Services Company, I had job as a fuelie. I spent a lot of time fueling Air Force and NY Air National Guard Transports and coast guard and civillian helicopters though.

We were contracted by the NSF to support all the science going on. The Navy is only down there for a few weeks at a time anymore, they are there to help unload the ship. I actually got a medal for it. (Anybody who spends 30 days south of 60 degrees gets it--and it's one of two medals that are the same for military and civillian. I don't know what the other one is.

I guess you could say I am not a decorated military veteran--but a militarily decorated veteran! Who knew? It is kind of a cool keepsake though. I have no idea how I would ever wear the thing and be tasteful!

Just out of frame (below and to the left) was the old Nuke Plant--which was a submarine reactor on land. It worked "badly" and about a thousand cubic yards of hillside had to be scooped out and taken away.

They pretty much turned it on and it started to melt down. They got it shut down, but I gather it was kind of ugly.
