Christo's influence spreads -- Christo is everywhere
Traffic engineers created this work of art in order to get people "to slow down and see the parking garage in a new way." They insist the saffron cones do not symbolize anything. In fact there is no reason that drivers should not be able to change lanes, if there was, it wouldn't be art. The artists say the best way to experience their work is to "stay in the middle of the lane."

Another group of artists created this exhibit which combines saffron cones with turmeric signage and a chipotle color stop sign.

The message of this piece is simple -- "you can't drive this way!"

And yet another group of artists has created this piece apparently called "don't go dare." Turnout has been light so far at the saffron colored fence which creates a flowing river of saffron at the edge of a large ugly hole.

I interviewed the artist. "Sir, this saffron fence is beautiful. What does it mean?"

"Get outta here!"

Take heart - the gates are only up for 16 days, right?

4. Honestly I think the Gates are hype but other people enjoy it
and it gets people talking about art so that's all good.

But Keith Olberman ripping on the project got me thinking about this parody.

3. Mom says they remind her of the floppy things at a car wash
(she's an East 70s resident)

Great idea for a meta-installation: Get some of those little Shriner cars and drive them thropugh the floppy things while people buff them to the tune of the Rose Royce classic "Car Wash".
