My dear frog passed away yesterday.
Frog E. Legs, the first of my frog friends to join my household, passed away Monday, October 7, 2003. Frog E. was an African Red-Legged Walking frog who loved to watch TV with us, exercising by walking up and down our arms, stretching out his long, red legs and, occasionally, even hopping. His croak, a lead voice in the choir of croaks that my frog family makes, will be sorely missed.

Frog Legs is survived by his parents, Jeffrey & Travis, sibling Little Frog, longtime terrarium mate Leaf E. Green (Tree Frog), special friend and Florida translplant, Being Green (Tree Frog - I know, the name's not easy), and visiting bass in the choir, Jeffrey (Gray Tree Frog owned by the young boy next door, but who lives with us). Also mourning are Buzz, the Leopard Gecko, and, of course, Bert E. Brains, the canary who is head of our household.

Those wishing to donate in memory of Frog E. Legs are asked to simply vote NO in the recall today.

Thank you for indulging me.

Keo

1. I'm very sorry about Frog E. Legs, Keo
I happen to love frogs, myself, although I've never had the pleasure of living with one.

Sounds like you have a great household to support you - so sorry for your loss.

The kitties and Buster the cockatiel also send hugs to you.

3. I am sorry to hear you lost your Frog Legs
however I still look forward to Rove being 'frog marched' out of the WH!

I am sure a frog can be a close companion...or not? I have never owned a frog..but I did own a chamelion when I was about 6 and when he died I wept for 3 days. We had a funeral for him also. We all attended, my mother, my father, my sister and I, his little coffin was a shoe box (my mother gave up for the occasion..and ALL her shoes were in shoe boxes...such a sacrafice)! We had a service and an internment with cross with name inked on the branch. Of course the site has been bulldozed since to make room for urban sprawl. I wonder if they moved his little grave? Ish was his (her?) name...Ish Kabibble!

5. Frog hated Rove on TV. He'd turn his head away...
We're having a memorial service for him tomorrow morning, and we're burying him here by the freeway, near where the homeless people live. They'll appreciate the sentiment.

Ish Kabibble?! Great name!

7. LOL...what do they do? Ribbit?
Very funny! I could make the sound for you...I'm pretty good at it. I would spell it something like AKAKAKAKAKAK AKAKAKAKAK.

9. Sorry about that, Keo.
I had an aquatic frog once, but it only lived for about six months. What is the lifespan on african red-legged frogs?

I am sorry about your loss. Frogs are the coolest animals.

I saw a leopart gecko last week at a pet store. Are they hard to care for?

Again, I hate that you lost Frog E. Legs. Hope that my questions aren't insensitive.

11. Thank you, jchild. Frog was certainly a cool animal!
As for lifespan, very little is known about how long frogs live. They are difficult to track. Many estimates say 4 - 40 years! I doubt that.

Frog lived with us for about a year before passing. His demise could have been from many factors, including age. Lots of frogs die from eating the wrong thing in the terrarium. I keep it clean, but there is always the possibility of them eating a piece of wood or a stick. I try to keep my terrarium very natural, just like it is outside. In any case, we'll miss him.

Buzz, the Leopard Gecko is cool and easy to care for. At first, when a neighbor was abandoning him, I thought he was - unattractive. He's bumpy with strange markings. But, he's also soft. When I had a close look at his permanent smile, I was smitten.

He eats crickets 2-3 times a week as an adult. He has a simple tank with wood sticks to hide and crawl on, water, and a heating lamp under the tank. He walks around supervised several times a week. These pets are cool, but also have delicate skin and very small legs, so gentle care is important.

10. So sorry for your loss!
I remember having frog friends when I was a kid. I'd collect them in the summer while we were on vacation and kept them in a large 7-up style soda bin (like you would see in an old country store) and then, every year before we went back home, I'd release them all.

While we were up north they were the only friends I had there.
