Les Paul still has it!
Just got back from seeing Les Paul at the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC. He is 88 and can still kick butt on guitar. I always wanted to see him play since I partly grew up in the same town as the he did (they call him the Wizard of Waukesha as in Waukesha, Wisconsin). His band is really hot and he had a special guest sit in tonight, Jon Paris, who has played harmonica with Jonny Winter. He tells the best stories about the people that he has worked with. He was talking about teaching little Stevie "Guitar" Miller his first cords. Wish you all could have been there. I need to go home and buy myself a Gibson Les Paul!

4. No problem for me
I usually sit down to play so I don't care how heavy it is. I have an Epiphone that is very similar.

2. He is somethin' else.
Glad to hear he's playing gigs again. I believe I read awhile back that he had to take it easy for heath reasons. Gotta love Les.
cheers!

5. Glad To Hear Les Is Playing
The man is a national treasure. I saw him many times in the 70's and 80's and sat in when he gave a seminar on the early days of studio recording, he was and still is awesome.

One great thing about Les is his support of young musicians. In the late 80's I taped either an HBO or Showtime special with Les, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, David Gilmour, Eddie Van Halen, Robert Cray, Steve Miller and a very young Jonny Lang. Great stuff.

6. Wow, sounds like a great show
My big regret is never getting to see Stevie Ray Vaughan before he died so now my attitude is "go see them while you still can". I just went to see B.B. King for exactly that reason.

7. Les Paul STILL Has it
Every Monday. Iridium Times Square. 58(?) & Broadway. If you go to the 10 o'clock show it will be the best 30 music dollars you will ever spend. The 10pm show is where he brings on guests that will just blow you away. Get to the sidewalk by 9:20.

It is 1650 Broadway, near 51st street. Right down the street from the Ed Sullivan theater where Dave Letterman hangs out. Check out the web site at:
