Lowe saves it in the 9th - Next stop: NY

By Greg Beacham, Associated Press, 10/06/2003

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Pedro Martinez, Johnny Damon, Manny Ramirez and even that maligned Boston bullpen -- they all were tougher than any curse.

Martinez pitched seven gritty innings, and Ramirez broke his slump with a decisive three-run homer as the Boston Red Sox completed a three-game playoff comeback, beating the Oakland Athletics 4-3 Monday night in Game 5 of their AL division series.

Boston got its fourth playoff series victory since its last World Series title in 1918, while Oakland's frustration continued. The A's have lost nine straight games in which they could have clinched postseason advancement, extending a major league record.

3. Me too...that would be great!
You do know who the Red Sox beat in 1918, don't you?

What a great game and finish.....

4. congrats, Sox . . .
this Yankee fan can't wait for this series . . . my prediction: Yankees in six . . . though if by some fluke the Sox win, I could live with a BoSox/Cubbies series . . . guaranteed the some fans will be celebrating something that's never happened in their lifetimes . . .

good luck, Sox . . . go Yankees! . . . :)
