1. I cured a lot of my hormonal and raging PMS issues with nutrition
More B vitamins, add an essential fatty acids supplement and stay away from chocolate is my prescription.

I also get "Welcome to your period" migraines if I don't follow this regimen, especially the eating chocolate part.

Whenever I'm on semester break, I never have any emotional problems with PMS or the week o' bleeding....but when I'm at college...different story.

6. Chocolate didn't used to bother me until my early 30s. Then it did.
I still eat it, becase sometimes it's worth it.

But sometimes the headaches are so bad I call it a "chocolate hangover."

45. Do you have pain
in other places besides your gut? I always had horrible cramps in my back and my thighs and never realized that wasn't normal. Some women have breast pain.

I feel for you. I know how painful periods are with endo. When I was in high school, my mother told me I was making a big deal out of nothing. She really felt bad 30 years later when she realized I hadn't been faking it when I didn't want to go to school and cried from the pain.

then my brother is telling me how he is talking to his duaghter about periods. oh how glorious they are and nature and womanhood yada yada, and i am sittin smack in the middle of mess. i wasnt very kind to his observation on the female menstration. was the funniest

49. I finally found a great doctor
who told me that pain anywhere but in your gut is not normal and is usually a sign of a problem. He also gave me lots of great stuff to read and that literature also mentioned pain in strange places during your period.

Endo causes implants that can travel all throughout your body. They throb every month when the uterine lining sheds. That's why the pain can be so severe. I read case studies of women who had chest pain so severe they thought they were having a heart attack.

29. Then I should have had a hysterectomy at 29 w/my endometriosis
I had a laparoscopy to clean out my plumbing and it lasted until I was 38 when I had my tubes tied. She took care of a grapefruit-sized cyst too.

No one's touched my plumbing since.

How's this for major irony: I got my tubes tied because I was sick of birth control and was terribly fertile. then BOOM, I've been celibate ever since.

Seriously. I haven't been on a date since 1998.

41. I had a laparoscopy and DNC
a few years before my hysterectomy. It only helped for a year or so and then the endo came back with a vengeance.

BTW, did you know endo is the leading cause of infertility? My doctor told me I was lucky that I got pregnant at all. My sister has it and it took her ten years to get pregnant.

The best treatment for endo is birth control pills but they didn't work for me. I got pregnant on the pill. LOL

52. I don't know
My doctor had to convince me. I put it off for nine months after he said surgery was the best option. I finally agreed when the pain pills just didn't work anymore and the doctor said the next pain pill I needed was something as strong as morphine. I also had really long periods that caused me to be anemic. I was really really sick and didn't realize just how bad it was till after my surgery.

If I was you, I would keep looking for a doctor until you find one who listens. I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome by one doctor and another told me I was exaggerating, the pain couldn't really be that bad. He prescribed anti-depressants and told me to come back in six months. I just kept going to different docs until I found one I liked and who believed me.

58. Its fucking unbelievable that Doctors are still trying to tell women
when they can and cannot tie their tubes! I had mine tied 26+ years ago when I was 23 years old. I had 4 pregnancies in 4 years and I had 3 children and couldn't afford anymore. I couldn't take the pill without getting sick (and it didn't work) I got pregnant on birth control pill AND we used condoms AND only had sex 2x in the month that I got pregnant. What are those odds?

I approached the doctor when I found out that I was pregnant and said that I wanted my tubes tied. They of course thought I was too young, but if I wrote a letter including all of the points listed on a form that they gave me, talked to a psychologist, talked to the board at the hospital, signed a release, had my husband sign a consent and....I was outraged! I said "This is my body, why do I have to go through all of this, it is simple, I'll have 3 children, we are poor and I don't want anymore children, I cannot afford them! Birth control doesn't work on me! They said that this was what I had to do if I wanted my tubes tied, period. Well we ended up moving to Florida a couple of months later and I told the doctor in Florida that I wanted to get my tubes tied when I delivered. They gave me a form to sign and told me that I had to have it back to them 30 before I delivered. I asked them if my husband had to sign it, they asked me if he was getting his tubes tied.

Now I'm hearing, 26 years later, no progress has been made in this area? This is outrageous. Doctors are here to perform medical procedures, not to decide morally if it is in our own best interest if we get our tubes tied or have a hysterectomy.

When I had my hysterectomy, I was lucky, the doctor totally left it up to me. I chose the clean sweep. I never regretted it since. I feel so much cleaner AND no more 2 weeks out of a month am I out of sorts in some way because of my period, on its way, here, leaving. What a literal pain in the ass it was.

54. There several kinds of estrogen
For a while I had sore breasts before my period. I read about Choline and Inositol which are B vitamins that improve the health of the liver. Women produce varying ratios of the different types of estrogen, and some types are irritating to breast,uterine/ovarian/fallopian tissue. A healthy liver can filter out the irritating forms of estrogen, and I found that Choline and Inositol, which you can buy together in one supplement (250mg.-300mg. of each), really help.

I wondered if you were talking about menopause, but evidently you're not. I don't mean to rub it in, but not all women have emotional ups and downs with their menstrual cycle. Not that I don't have my share of problems, but they don't seem to relate to hormones.
