Can nicotine gum be used in reverse?
I've always wondered if non-smokers could use nicotine gum to build up a raging nicotine addiction and then become heavy smokers. Any willing participants for such an experiment?

1. I tried to beat my tobacco addiction with gum.
It doesn't work. The Carr method does.

6. It worked for me about 10 years ago.
It was a strong addiction which went back for many years. I had shifted to dipping Copenhagen, which was probably a stronger addiction than cigarettes. (I was 'mainlining" the nicotine directly through my gums). My dentist got concerned at the spots of irritation on my gums, and wrote me out a prescription for Nicorex. (She may have been the ONLY dentist in Seattle who had copies of Z in her waiting room).

It required close adherence to the directions, which involved slow and deliberate chewing of the gum, at specified intervals. I was just starting on the third box when I figured that I was "cured". At that same time, I also started chewing regular gum pretty heavily. (There were tines when my jaws really ACHED).

That was over 10 years ago, and I may have grown a lot more cranky & irritable over that, but it WORKED. Since then, it became OTC, but I've been assured that the nicotine strength was unchanaged. Give it a try.

8. I think it might
I've heard that if you've never smoked and started chewing nicotine gum, you'd become addicted to the gum.

9. That's almost certainly correct
because in your mind, the feeling from the nicotine hit would be associated with chewing the gum. Therefore you would crave the gum, not a cigarette.
