Again.....please go see School of Rock...

If you are at all a true fan of rock music. If you've ever practiced your moves in your bedroom, pretending you are on stage at Madison Square Garden....if you've ever "gotten the Led out".....if you've ever dreamed of wearing a cape and jamming with Yes......if you ever duck walked like Angus Young or Chuck Berry.....or sang along to a song in your car and pointed to an imaginary crowd......or even if you just had your life changed by rock music....then this movie is for you.

I'll admit that if you have a low tolerance for Jack Black that it may be tough, but I know people who don't like him that loved this movie. It was one of the most sincere movies I've ever seen. And any movie that causes an audience as varied in age as the one I saw it with, burst into total applause at the final sight of 10 year old kids jamming on an AC/DC tune is a-ok with me. 3 Days later and I'm still smiling at this movie.

And one thing I liked is that it didn't try to fit in a love story where one didn't belong.

it was a way for Black to manipulate the principal. The "movie" wasn't very good, but it was absolutely one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time. I rarely laugh out loud at movies and this one had me cracking up. Definitely worth seeing

there were several points where I said to myself...this is schlock...but i really don't care.

I especially enjoyed the end credits jam session.

Also Sarah Sliverman, whom I normally enjoy immensely, was horrible in the movie

Jack Black is on a par with CarrotTop, David Spade, Adam Sandler, and a zillion other annoying, unfunny twits. I heard an interview with Black on NPR, and he came off as being inarticulate and kinda dumb.

I've seen and read interviews with him and I think he's actually one of these hyper smart guys whose body and mouth has trouble keeping up with his brain. Just my take on it though.

But I can see where people would have problems with him.

6. Nah, I heard the NPR interview

He actually seems quite shy and very tentatively articulate, which is sweet. That's not uncommon though, for a performer who gives such brash, bold performances to be shy and reserved in his own skin. The being on stage or in front of the camera gives them that permission to just let loose.

I didn't like Jack Black before, but since I saw him on Conan's 10 anneversary show, he's definitely grown on me. I'll probably go se SoR.

As for the movie - enough! Rock is dead! That genre had a 40 year run at the top of the charts. Why can't we allow our young-uns to make and find their own music instead of continually foisting older generations' mementos of their glorious youth upon them?

Jack Black, IMO, is very funny and does good physical comedy. He also can sing his ass off when he wants to.

It would be like watching someone scratch their nails on a chalkboard for 2 hours. I'm sure a lot of other people like him, I can't stomach him. There's probably people I like that turn other's sotmachs too, it's a wash.

4) break your arrangement with the international assassin and raise your price arbitrarily as the international assassin loads the illegal high-tech projectile weapon.

5) get slowly dismantled by the international assassin's use of the illegal high-tech projectile weapon, all the while howling and shrieking for your life, and wondering why he's turned on you...

Yeh, I reeeeeally felt sorry for JB's character in Jackal. :eyes:


I quite enjoyed him in "Hi-Fidelity". His "I Just Called to Say I Love You" monologue is one of the best written pieces of script I've ever heard.

17. Hi-Fidelty

I loved that film and my wife did not get it at all. Usually she can see the male persona side of things ok to in other dramas. I guess one of the reasons I attached to the movie is the fact that some of the music geeks really reminded me of some comic book I knew back in the day. Damn, Hi-Fidelty was a good film.

18. I want to see it, but the central premise is ridiculous

I am a full-time substitute teacher, and let me tell you, the fantasy of "what these kids need is to loosen up and rebel more" is utter bullcrap. What kids need today--at least public school kids--is to be engaged in the learning process, and to learn basic (BASIC!!!) manners, discipline, and self-control. Maybe since the movie's set at a tony private school, the kids are of a different mindset, but it can't be that different.

However, the reviews have been rapturous, and I do like Jack Black.

20. You couldn't have it more wrong.....

Nothing about it has to do with kids needing to "loosen up". It more has to do with kids have to find something...some kind of activity that speaks to their heart and their soul and their passion and then that will completely in still in them a sense of purpose and confidence. It's basically saying that learning and life's lessons come in all shapes and sizes. But there is nothing about this that says that kids need to be slackers or have less structure. In fact JB is quite the taskmaster in the film.
