Anyone here know about pool maintenance?

Like many others here, it is time to cut back on our expenses. We have a pool service that comes once a week for which we pay $75 a month. I can definitely handle the vacuuming, skimming and chemicals. My only concern is with dealing with backflushing the pump which has to be done twice a year. I have no clue what this involves. TIA for any help.

1. On my pump it's easy....but if you go to any pool supply shop

they should be able to tell you how to do it...

I am pretty handy but I know nothing about pools. I'm a stay at home mom so I have time to learn.

3. On my pump, I just have to pull a lever...then release some pressure

then turn it on...

Mine is old though ..I have no idea if it's any more simple now
