OMG. Guy painting our house is listing to religious radio.
I'm pissed. You can hear it all the way through the house, not just where he's working.

What should I say to him?

5. Don't offend him
He's in a position to screw up your house.

I think "I have a migraine, would it be okay to turn that down" is good, or blame it on the neighbors - you don't want them calling to complain about the noise again.

Painting is something that has got to be done right. I'd just ask him to turn it down a bit, you know because of the neighbors.

9. Well, I would say nothing except to please turn it down
If you can hear it outside the room, it is too loud.

Other than that, why bother the guy. He could be a very nice person, a devout, true Christian, not a RW fundie. Or he could be like me, somebody who is listening to this stuff simply in order to find out what the other side thinking. Who knows why, but I would recommend that other than the volume, to live and let live. Otherwise you could come out with a very shitty paint job, on top of a bruising, emotional confrontation.

13. Say nothing.
If you want your house well painted, don't antagonize the painter. You wear earplugs if you can't stand it. Just get a good paint job.

14. Turn it off or get out
I didn't hire you to evangelize me. And if you fuck up the job, I'm not paying you.

There are other painters in your town, right?

If he does something in the way of vandalism in retaliation have him arrested. You can hire and fire him at your will.

21. I'm with you sandnsea
and I don't get all of this "he'll mess up the job". Not only would I refuse to pay him if he messed up the job, I'd make sure the general contractor never hired him again. (I have a decorator and a general contractor who are godless commie pinkos like me. They'll know if its a good job or not.)

This is not like plumbing or electricity where I might not know who's fault it was or if it was f*cked up. This is paint. I actually can figure out pretty easily if it is a good job or not.

It's my home. I AM working from here today and my son is home from work ill. The door to the upstairs has to be open for ventilation.

I'm just pissed that people think they can impose their religious crap on others and want to make him more sensitive.

He and I talked (earlier) about him doing the upstairs when he's done. I think I'll say, when he's done with the basement, that I'm going to find someone else to do the rest of the house as I'm not Christian and was offended by the tone and volume of his radio. Maybe next time he'll think twice about imposing his beliefs on others.

28. I don't take it from my family
Why in the world would I take it from a stranger.

Actually, I would probably just say that when I hear these radio and televangelists, all I hear is money changers and wolves in sheeps clothing and they offend MY sense of Christianity and values.

Which is partly true. Mostly I just don't understand what kind of faith needs pumping up 24 hours a day. If heaven is all preaching and hymns, I don't want to go there!

15. Get a video camera ready and wait...
between the paint fumes and the religious music, he'll probably have a few wacky "conversations" with his paint brush that you can enter in America's Funniest Home Video.

17. Praise the Lord! That paint job looks heavenly!
I'm going into my prayer closet to pray for our troops and President Bush.

Could you please turn down the radio just a bit while I pray?

When he leaves, fire up a joint and listen to some Black Sabbath to clear the air.

22. left wing religious radio?
isn't that a contradition in terms? I respect religious people who follow the teachings of Christ but what in the world do they need a radio station for?

I'm against religious evangelizing on either side, right or left.

just give him this little card.

It's a real ice breaker

If the guy is a Bushbot fundie, then I would find another painter. I don't do business with people who are Bushbots if I can avoid it.
