Worship Together CD Commercial: Make It Stop!
(note this the 3rd time i've tried posting this)

I'm not into the whole "Organized Religion' thing, so I apologize if this offends anyone:

How many of you have seen this? Watch the Cartoon Network, and you'll know what I mean. They how it EVERY time there is a commercial break. WEll, maybe not everytime, but it sure seems like it.....I pretty much have it memorized.

I find the whole thing creepy, I mean look at the audience footage....looks like some sort of mass brainwashing. Were the 'scenes' filmed in the Bible Belt (meaning all white people)?

And one last thing, Christian Rock....isn't that an Oxymoron? I thought Rock n ROll was evil?

5. Even Worse - The Bible Videos Endorsed by Focus On The Family
Easily one of the most evil organizations on the face of the earth. Their headquarters is on a hill just North of Colorado Springs - that's why I refer to James Dobson as "The Fool On The Hill".

The True "Axis of Evil"

1 - James Dobson and Focus On The Family
2 - Pat Robertson and The 700 Club
3 - Fred Phelps and His Roving Band of Homophobes

13. Focus on the Family
When I was a teenager, my parents' church was sent some free videos by Dobson. The minister didn't view the tapes before setting up a night for the parishoners to come and view them. They ended up cancelling the rest of them because the first was so offensive.

The "Songs for Worship" and "Songs for Praise" and all those type of commercial do get really annoying. I notice that the cds consist of many of the same songs, arranged differently and performed by different "artists". They play them way too much. Whatever happened to good christian music, like Kansas or Phil Keagy? They all seemed to go the Amy Grant/Sandi Patti route (although Amy sold out a long time ago and Sandi is an adulteress).

17. Amy's an adulteress too!
It's funny how the religious reich can forgive Amy Grant and Vince Gill for their adulterous affair, yet still hate Bill Clinton for his.

Phil Keaggy's still making music, though it's nearly impossible to find, even in the Christian bookstores. Try his website www.philkeaggy.com

Everytime that commercial comes on (CNN, MSNBC, THE WEATHER CHANNEL...it's everywhere) I only regret that I'm not younger with faster reflexes to hit the "next" button on the remote.........

9. Actually--it's a fascinating example of "fixed" advertising
In the ad-- they show scenes of maybe one "large concert" and the rest they just show a much smaller venue via different angels

In other words--they're trying to get folks to think that this is a massively popular movement via the ad,--the fake crowds though make them look like fools (that's, of course, the only way I can stomach the ad when it shows up during Family guy...)

11. Well, if they can make a venue look larger 'via different angels,' ...
why can't they just get those angels to bring them bigger crowds? Why do they need to advertise on TV at all -- why not just rely on the angels to bring in the crowds? ;-)

10. For my life still ahead, pity me. I'm a Christian, raised on wonderful
hymns like "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today". Now I attend my wife's church, an Evangelical fundy right-wing nightmare. (She won't go to my church. Methodists "aren't real Christians") They play that "Shout to the Lord" crap for frickin' HOURS! Over and over and over and over and..........
The attitude seems to be "It doesn't matter if the music is good or bad as long as it's "blessed" (whatever the heck that's supposed to mean.) I disagree. This is God we're talking about. How about striving for a little excellence, huh? I grew up singing hymns written by Beethoven, Bach, Mendelssohn, and Brahms. Now I'm singing crap written by the guy who runs the overhead projector.

BTW, if you're wondering, I put up with all of this because our pastor is one of the finest men I've ever known. Full of love and forgiveness. I've learned so much from him, it's incredible. What he's doing in that church, I'll never know.

12. I'm not religious but...
"What he's doing in that church, I'll never know."

Perhaps he sees himself as being called to re-educate the extremists.

14. That is kind of freaky
But it doesn't bother me.

What is a hoot is the "Judgement Day" guy on one of those channels on cable.

Guy never gives you the whole stroy because he wants you to buy the book/video/CD or (creak, creak)audiotape.

15. "Worship Together CD Commercial: Make It Stop!"
That commercial gives me the creeps. I get a kick out of the people with their hands reaching like they are waiting for a lightning bolt. My girlfriend has been trying to get me to go to her new church. I always politely say no thanks and she starts to tell me that it is not a preachy church and that they have a rock band play. I then have to remind her that I am not a christian and I would not try to talk her out of her beliefs as long as she respects mine.

Anyway.. My name is John and this is my 1st post. Someone sent me a message concerned that my username might be in reference to James Randi. Just to let everyone know that I am a Randi Rhodes fan. Some of you may have heard of her she is on the radio in West Palm Beach Fl on 1290 WJNO and she is one of the few LIBERAL talk show hosts on the air.

25. Welcome to DU!
Hey, we're all Randi Rhodes fans here, too! I listen to her through the internet, especially now that Peter Werbe's been sacked over at i.e. America.

And yes, there are some James Randi fans, here, too but they're usually in the Meeting Room picking on the astrologers.

18. This is Children's Programming!!
Edited on Wed Jul-16-03 03:07 PM by PurityOfEssence
I've posted about this too, I have two rather young kids.

There are (as there should be) FCC laws about advertising in children's programming hours. This is Time/Life that's doing it. Boycott their nasty little asses.

Then again, these are the folks bringing us Harry Potter movies...

This is absolutely indefensible and should stop; children have even less mechanism to resist people selling them (fill in the blank) than adults. That's why they're more protected and have less rights.

(on edit, to clarify: they play this endlessly on the Cartoon Network in the morning and afternoon hours. This is despicable in the extreme.)

20. What's worse than this album is....
..the Cristy Lane album, introduced by none other than Barry "Ballad of the Green Berets" Sadler himself, comparing this ditzy one hit "Christian" wonder (and current Pat Robertson employee) to Vietnam veterans.

21. What is really funny
about it playing so much on Cartoon Network is I have started watching the more or less uncut airings of Big O. I was curious what they had cut before and imagine my surprise when I found out that, in addition to some of the violence, they removed the references to God.

They even changed the line, Forged in the Name of God to read Forged in the Name of Good.

Really weird. Of course these ads may be local inserts but they play like national ones.

23. Yes the commercials with the white mutant zombies
trying to touch the sky while swaying more or less in time with the music? eyes closed looks of rapture upon upturned faces, that one? the one where I fling obscenities at time life and search for the remote.
One thing about the sale of "christian" music, a personnal belief I don't think there should be any profit at all, after the expenses are covered give every dime to the poor, buy food, buy clothing, buy school supplies.
If ms. lane and others have been blessed with a beautiful gift let them use it to make their way in life and quit hawking song of inspiration.
I really need to stay out of these religious threads.

24. Well, I'm Catholic, and I have to "LOL" at these commericials.
When they show a shot of the audience -- seriously, it looks like some sort of cult gathering. Although, I always watch it the whole way through just for a good laugh.

27. Yup, can't stand'em!
I mentioned these ads over on the worst commercial thread -- BBCAmerica plays them far too often for my taste. I hit the mute or the channel change the minute they come on.

AsI mentioned in he other thread, what bugs me is their white-bread, squeaky-clean, orgasmic appearance.

It's like something out of "Night of the Living Dead"!
