Today is the day...
I'm off to the dentist. My palms are sweaty. I truly wish I could avoid this altogether...

<SIGH>

If I don't make it back one of you can have my stereo.

2. I think...
The hygienist will be the one to need them. It would drown out my screams.

5. It wasn't offered...
Today is just a cleaning, they say. Personally, I hope to hell so. I can't stand needles and even the thought of the cleaning makes my heart quicken.

Could someone try to find a way to talk me out of going? (It won't take much, believe me.)

8. Well...to be truthful...
I'd rather listen to the enema...I mean enemy. At least I can blot out his pain with a good set of earplugs.

7. Just make sure you get anestethia
Edited on Fri Oct-03-03 09:56 AM by Kamika
I know what you mean im REALLY scared of the dentist.

When i was about five years old, the dentist had to repair a hole, and my mom who was new in the US and had no idea of anything, thought that the anestethia was harmful for me..

well im sure you can guess the rest..

Maybe thats good since i take care of my teeths like a fanatic now, so i never ever have to go thru the process of repairing my teeth again.

10. Have you explained
your experiences and fears to them? Please do before they start. Knowing that, they will go slower and be more gentle and if they won't take your phobia seriously, LEAVE and find someone else.

You can usually find dentists who specialize in this area or you can screen them when you call for an appointment.

Take deep breaths and good luck!

13. I'm back...
And it didn't go well.

I got in, signed the sheets and sat down. The lady behind the counter started asking me questions about my job because her son works at our sister hotel. Then the hygienist came out and told me to come with her. She took the X-rays and then walked me to the room where the procedure was going to be done. She went to do the X-rays and I sat there looking around and getting more and more nervous.

Finally she came back in, looked at me and said she'd be back as she wanted the doctor to come in and take a look first.

I closed my eyes and tried to calm down. The doctor came in and said "Hello" and I almost jumped out of the chair. He asked if I was a bit nervous. I said, "You might say that."

They opted not to do anything today. They gave me a prescription for Valium and told me to come back next Thursday and we'd try it again with the Valium and Nitrous.

I'm such a wuss.
