14. Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee outside the shed singing,
"Jump down, turn around, pick a bale of cotton.
Jump down, turn around, pick a bale a day..."

That was the first time I heard that song since first grade! Our first grade teacher used to have us sing it, complete with the motions of jump down, turn around, etc. I almost fell over when they started singing it in the movie. That's when I realized that it must be an old slave song. Pretty weird song to be doing in first grade, doncha think?

20. Brownie's 80th birthday party
I'm in the SF Bay Area and we have a club called Yoshi's. It's in Jack London Square today, but it used to be in north Oakland (or south Berkeley). It was a sushi bar, of all things, that featured Jazz and Blues.

I have a friend named Big Bones (www.bigbonesblues.com) who had a radio program at that time on KPOO, that gave me tickets to Brownie McGee's 80th birthday party at Yoshi's. There were many performers who were each given time for 2 of Sonny & Brownie's songs. What an amazing night.
