Music you want but can't have

Albums by Wha Ha Ha, a wonderful Japanese band from the early '80s, have been an unfulfilled grail quest for me since the late '80s. There was a copy of the album pictured above, a compilation released in the UK, languishing at the radio station I spent many years working at, but I just couldn't bring myself to swipe it.

And you? What great record eludes you?

1. Dave Brubeck "The last time We Saw Paris"
Never reissued on CD. Also, the Association CDs which are only available as Japanese imports. Not worth $40 each to me.

4. I have two
But they're both in the basement. I don't know when I'll ever hook them up again.

Rent it. Really quirky film.

7. Loved that film
I hadn't thought about it in a while. I don't recall what the film score was like, but if you liked it, it must be worthwhile.

6. Drunks With Guns
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 04:44 PM by Beware the Beast Man
Really sloppy, sludgy noise punk from the mid-80's. I'm sure their LP is long out of print.

On edit- Unida's "Coping with the Urban Coyote," too (as well as a ton of other stuff off of Man's Ruin Records). And their EP "The Best of Wayne-Gro."
Slo-Burn "Amusing the Amazing" EP

11. I have a couple of DWG 7"s.
PM me - I don't have the means to burn CDs from vinyl, but if you do, I'll let you borrow 'em. Or I could tape them, but that's *so* '80s.

8. The Youngbloods' Second Release
which always seems to be left off the discography. Not even sure of the title.

And also: "The Real Life Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper." It's available, but the prices I've seen have been sky-high.

9. Melomania by the Darkside
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 04:55 PM by Taverner
Another classic from 90's era College Rock. And this isn't the Darkside that is on the radio now, but a psychadelic band.

Never have been able to find it since.

10. "Pennies from Heaven"
From the film starring Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters. I love all of the songs from this film, and I had the vinyl album for years. Alas, even though it's on DVD just this month, no soundtrack on CD is available.

Also, when Tori Amos performs in concert, she'll do the best covers, often reinterpreting the song. These new versions never get onto CD. She did do a cover song CD, but most of these were a bit overproduced. She should do one just of her songs with piano accompanyment, the way she does them in concert, so I can trash all of those hissy, noisy bootlegs I've downloaded from LimeWire.
