Remember, elections aren't won on competence, intelligence, statesmanship, policy and articulateness... but on whether you & your family are tramps!

31. I generally stay away from the twins-bashing
(except for the godawful RNC appearance).

I'm 24 now, and honestly, I'd probably get along with them pretty well. Just because they drink a lot and go to bars a lot doesn't mean they're sluts. It just means they're "at that age."

Hell, look at me, I haven't had any action in months, and I pretty much live at the bar.

27. yes yes yes!
I am so sick of the twin bashing! I don't remember any presidential sons getting this treatment.

Attack their principles.
Attack their political beliefs.
Attack their father.
Attack their actions that actually effect the nation.

Don't attack their appearance! It really is sexist that the only thing they get trounced for is their clothes and how they choose to spend their free time. Men get attention for their actions, women for their appearance, it hasn't changed a bit.

33. Um....they campaigned for their dad....
IMHO FAIR GAME....

As far as what I was doing in my 20s...it was not dressing like a skank whore that's for sure. I was a geek attending sci fi conventions.

Once they chose to enter into the political arena and allowed themselves to be used for partisan reasons they opened themselves up to the court of public opinion.

WAY different than Chelsea in SO many ways.

34. Sure they did. So criticize them on their works, not their "skank whore"
looks. When was the last time a presidential son was criticized for his looks? I don't recall that happening in a whole lot of years. But when it's the presidential daughters, all that matters is their appearance?

Their dress is atrocious, considering their money, and, presumably, their access to people who could help them dress appropriately. But why does that matter?

37. The last presidential son I recall vividly is
Ron Reagan Junior and trust me HE was criticized. OOOOH was he criticized. He was ridiculed for being a dancer (if I remember correctly) and of course along with that were the rumors that he was gay.

Other than RR Jr the only pres. son I recall was Steve Ford and I was a kid back then so I don't know if he was ridiculed or not. I think he was an actor for short time.

It was his chosen profession that was criticized. By insecure people who cannot imagine that a straight man could also be a dancer.

38. I wouldn't be seen in a dress that showed my nips that's for sure
Edited on Thu Jan-20-05 01:04 PM by ikojo
I think the reason the Bush twins are held to task is because the party for which they actively campaigned is the party that is held up as one supporting modesty and "moral values." When people support such a party or stand in judgment of others (a la Bill Bennett) they kind open themselves up for more inspection and condemnation for doing what they would deem inappropriate when done by others. Just think of what Falwell and Dobson would say if Chelsea was seen cavorting around DC and NYC dressed as the Bush twins dress. The whole Democratic party would be called to task.

Take Bill Bennett for example...as he was lecturing America on the proper way to raise children and have a family, he was gambling away millions of dollars. Sure many people have a gambling problem and it is sad, but not all gamblers with a problem hold themselves up as paragons of moral virtue. So when a person like that falls, sure he/she will be ridiculed.
