2. everyone hated it, but-
The Village is an EXCELLENT film. It does not make "sense" in that the characters do things that they would probably not do in real life. That's what makes people like Roger Ebert fret, but frankly, that whole "plausibility" argument has no place in film criticism.

Films are like dreams. Dreams that we can share.

When examining dreams do we consider how "plausible" they are? No. We think only about what they mean, and how amazing they are.

If you think about those things, and apply it to modern American life, "The Village" is utterly fantastic.

7. I hate M. Night Shyamalan. But I liked The Village.
M. Night Shyamalan should hire other people to write, or at the very least, edit. His ideas are kind of interesting, but his execution is very fifth grade (see: Signs). His direction is quite good though, he should stick with that.

There is A LOT of "oh, he did that so the plot would work out" which screams I AM A BEGINNING WRITER. His cameos are getting very irritating.

That aside, Ron Howard's little girl does well(though it chaps my ass she didn't even have to audition even though she'd never done a film before). Adrien and Joaquin were excellent. I liked the film.

I usually can't stomach Tom Cruise ... but he seems typecast in this one.

5. No offense to Tahitinut, but that White Castle movie sucks ass
I can appreciate low-brow humor when its good, but there wasnt anything in this movie that anyone over 13 should find funny. Mostly bad pot and fart/poop jokes. Not to mention its really a huge, shameless commercial for the burger chain in the title. I only got suckered into seeing it by its inexplicably high IMDB rating upon its release, which is still a complete mystery to me since that site is usually pretty reliable.

Collateral was pretty good minus some over-the-top Hollywood elements, and I didnt see the other two (assuming you're referring to the newly made remake of MC)

10. Thats funny
I wouldn't imagine that a 13 yo would get some of the jokes about racism, mtn dew commercials, and cops. The cop jokes were hilarious to me. But then I love the whole movie.

6. What kind of mood are you in?
If you're wanting to escape into silliness...

Harold and Kumar sounds good.

8. Manchurian Candidate--guaranteed satisfaction.
You've got three excellent actors, a pretty good story, and a good director.

My order would be:

Manchurian Candidate
The Village
Collateral
Harold and Kumar

H & K is the only comedy though...so you might want to stick it in the middle to lighten things up.
