still having problems playing DVDs on my PC
I wrote earlier about troubles trying to play DVDs and some internet vids with Windows media player after I downloaded a codec...I was advised to delete the codec and reinstall media player...but for some reason it's still not working right...any suggestions?

WMP's message says: "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer."

I've also tried using REalPlayer and Interactual IPlayer, and I'm getting error messages with them, too...what gives?

1. You really should get something like "Power DVD" ..it allows you to
...fast foward and reverse, capture screen and lots of other toys...
And it always works. :)

6. Try a codec pack such as DefilerPak
http://hellninjacommando.com/defilerpak /

Dunno if it'll help or not, but it fixed all my personal video playback problems.

I recommend installing the divx and xvid codecs as well.

8. Try playing your DVD with the (free) DIVX player...
... from http://www.divx.com/divx/player

Also, if you are using Windows XP try using System Restore to go back to a point before you installed the problem codec.

9. ok
first, divx and xvid are not used to play back retail dvds. they are used to playback dvds encoded to divx/xvid.

to play dvds on a windows system you'll want an app like WinDVD or PowerDVD, or if you're skilled, VLC. unfortunately windvd and powerdvd are commercial applications, so you will have to pay for them. vlc however is freeware.
