Sports Marketing Group poll: golf 5th most hated sport in America
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,98506,00.html

The genteel PGA Tour is the No. 5 most hated and disliked sport (30.4 percent), followed by the PGA seniors' Champions Tour (29.9), the LPGA Tour (29.2), NASCAR (27.9), Major League Soccer (27.6) and the ATP men's tennis tour (26.5). That's a lot of people who hate or dislike events that sponsors are backing with billions of bucks.

<SNIP>

Golf, even in the age of Tiger Woods, still turns off many Americans with its snooty and sexist country club image. The image may not fit reality -- there are plenty of public courses played by middle-class golfers -- but perception is everything in polls.

<SNIP>

NASCAR turns off almost as many with the opposite image: red, white and blue -- or as some see it, redneck, blue collar and white skin -- even if it is has broadened its appeal to millions who don't fit that description.

Found it on FOX, so take it with a grain of salt! :evilgrin:

There's enough competition for tee times as it is! :P

"The image may not fit reality -- there are plenty of public courses played by middle-class golfers -- but perception is everything in polls." - DAMN STRAIGHT...

3. I like the fact that people don't like dogfighting.
Ya know, I never thought of that as a sport. It's like they just threw it in their to jack up the other sports standings. What about bear fighting? Or seal fencing? Or monkey gladiators? Or cat jousting? Or parakeet battle royale? How do you feel about those sports, sir or madam? And then suddenly golf and soccer are only marginally disliked.

9. You Know Why They Call It "Golf?"
All of the other four-letter words were taken.

2. This sounds pretty goofy to me.
Obviously, plenty of people love those sports and leagues, so what's the point? We are tracking what sports others dislike? Very bizarre.

4. "Hated"???
"Hate/Hated/Hater" is becoming the most overused word. I doubt very many people truly "hate" Golf.

Yours,

Society to preserve the sanctity of Hate.

7. I only hate golf...
AFTER my attempted drive off the first tee! :eyes:

But I can see how its image needs the cleaning up. Sometimes it seems as though the last truly "good guy" male golfers were Arnold Palmer, Lanny Wadkins, Payne Stewart and Fred Couples, in that generational order. So many more of them are such obnoxious oafs personally that sometimes it's hard to see how their caddies didn't wind up in jail for attempted murder! :eyes:

B-)

5. Watching golf is like watching paint dry
but I guess "hate" is too strong a word for my feelings about golf. How about "Golf is the single most boring activity human beings can observe." I have no idea if it's fun to play. :-)

8. its much more exciting than you might think.
standing over the last full shot of the day trying to keep your composure, nerves firing. Its quite a mental workout.

I love to watch golf, but if you dont play then I bet its very dull.
