Do You Nickname Your Pets?
I was just thinking of my pets past and present. I noticed how few of them were ever called by the name they were originally given.

Ziggy became Zig Meister
Caesar became Weezie.
She Who Walks Silently became Shadow.
Tinkerbelle became Tinks a Lot (slight wind problem).
Crispin became Crispy Kitty.
Mobley became Mobster.
And, poor Jagger & Meister don’t even recognize their given names. They somehow became Whitey Ford and Biddy. This I blame on my daughter; she never did embrace their original names.

Are we the only family who can’t stick to a name for our pets?

24. Hehehe, Althea got her nickname a couple of days after I brought her
home, I was petting her and Quinn was giving me evil stares so I told him "Don't worry, you're still King Shit around here," and Althea squeaked when I said it, so I told her "Quite yer whinin', you can be Princess shit."

She's been Princess ever since :)

Sebastian is 'fatty bums' or more affectionately fatty B.

The Daemon was originally named Neo, but that never stuck because my youngest daughter said he was a "demon spawn," and that kind of stuck. :D He also is called Mew Boy, or Freak. Both cats together are known as eight-legged freaks.

When I was a kid we had a dog named Nosey, but her name morphed into Nose Ann.

126. Catzilla -- aka Gato
We have a feral cat colony at work -- myself and a co-worker have been taking care of them.

About two years ago -- this cat showed up, very friendly and on the large side. At first I thought he was a "daddy" of at least some of the cats in the colony. But then I noticed he had been neutered and declawed.

The cat was very affectionate, and because of the neutering and declawing it was obvious he was no feral cat. I mentioned him to my partner, but she was sort of against bringing a "strange" cat into the house.

Well, we were forcasted to have a big snow/ice storm in a day or so. I put a sign around the cat ("will purr for food") took a picture of him and left the pic on the kitchen table. When my partner came home, she sighed and said "ok bring him home, but he's here on probation..."

That was two years ago. About a week or so after bringing him home we got him to the vet for a check-up. He weighed about 11-lbs at that time. He's now around 20lbs. Not fat, just one big cat -- when he stretches out he's 3ft from nose to end of tail. Hence the nick-name CATZILLA.

He's bonkers for catnip, and loves the laser-light toy.

108. LOL, one of our cats is actually NAMED CatZilla..due to the
fact that he was the biggest kitten when they were all still nursing. AFter they discovered kitty kibble, Lewis jumped to the top of the food chain and became Giant Kitty. Zill is now the smallest of the three boys who remained with us! Too funny...but he gets to be Belly Mojo a lot because you can hypnotize him by rubbing his belly.

Now why do YOU have a Catzilla!

18. The Naming of Cats -- T.S. Eliot
The naming of cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm mad as a hatter
When I tell you a cat must have three
different names.

First of all, there's the name
that the family use daily,
Such as Victor, or Jonathan,
George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names
if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen,
some for the dames;
Such as Plato, Admetus,
Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.

But I tell you,
a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that is peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he
keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers,
or cherish his pride?

Of names of this kind,
I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quazo or Coripat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellyrum--
Names that never belong
to more than one cat.

But above and beyond
there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you will never guess;
The name
that no human research can discover--
But The Cat Himself Knows,
and will never confess.

When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought,
of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

55. There was a comparison between cats and dogs
being sent around the internet awhile ago. Basically, how God created the dog to love man, and the cat to look down on him.

I always remember the end of it because I got a good laugh from it; "And God was pleased; and Man was happy; and Dog was happy; Cat didn't give a shit, one way or another."

Her successor, a rescue kitty I named Mr. Big was nicked by me and everyone else in the neighbourhood. Biggie, The Sumo Kitty, Cow Cat, Thanksgiving Kitty, Tiny Head, The Chairman...the list goes on.
Now Stella so far has Little Baby Puppy girl, Tiny Baby Puppy, Miss Puppy, Missy, Toto-It's only been a month.

Our cat Clarisse answers to Claire, Booble and Doodle. The dog answers to Thug, Ugly Boy, and Beanie. (His name is Barney, hence Beanie.) The other cat answers to Pumpkus (she's pumpkin orange) and Opie. (Her name is Josephine, so she answers to Jo.)

There are other names they have as nicknames, that they respond to and are aware it means them, but they're not fit to print.

I should have just changed her name to Little F--ker. She ran in front of me one time, made me trip on my phone cord and break my ankle. Then one time I came home from work and found her licking my George Forman grill. I would clean the grill when I was done cooking, and wipe it off before cooking. That made me wonder, though, how much of my fish and chicken had cat spit on it.

100. We used to have
a fabulous young Siamese cat we called "Ponker". But whenever I spoke about him he was "Shadbolt" or, in full, "Shadbolt, the Flying Picket" ; that would be when I was talking to myself. Soliloquising would be dignifying my burblings a little too much.

I don't know if you have the term, "flying picket", in the US, but here, among all right-thinking people, it is a designation of immense prestige, as they picketed workplaces far and wide, during industrial disputes. La Thatcher outlawed them.

My wife's family had a number of cats: a local Mull cat, B&W (B and Trouble you); a Leither, Theo (TeoWeo - had a sister, Clootie Dumpling or Clootie); Rusty (Missy Rusty); another local cat, Orlando (Orlie Boo).

Alexander, a.k.a. Alley Cat, our 18 yr old, passed in December, so his title of "Le Gran Fromage" was inherited by Jello (Biafra), our 8 yr old. Both guys were/are solid black with a small white patch on their chest.
