History Channel Spinoff Set for Launch
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 03:50 AM by damkira
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The History Channel has drafted plans for a new network dedicated to programming that focuses on military history.

The cable network is set to announce Monday that the new channel, dubbed Military History Channel, will kick off with a preview starting at 8 p.m. EST on Wednesday ahead of its official launch in the spring, when the channel will begin airing programming round-the-clock.

History Channel said the move was spurred by the successful introduction of a military programming block on the network in March.

"Since the History Channel premiered in 1995, military history has always been extremely popular with our viewers," said Dan Davids, president of the domestic cable network. "While we will continue to present military programming on the History Channel, this new network, Military History Channel, provides a targeted destination for new and core viewers to immerse themselves in this fascinating and instructional genre."

This is really good news to me because I hate the over military crap that they've had lately and that annoying 'mail call' guy.

Hopefully now, the history channel will be devoting more of it's time to quality programming like 'Hitler and the Occult' 'High Hitler' and 'Hitler's Women'. I'm serious! I love their Hitler shows for some reason.

1. I'm into the Hitler history, too.
For me it started back in grade school when I read Anne Frank. Ever since then I want to know everything about is evil twisted mind.

Will they move Mail Call off the regular History Channel now? Gawd, I hope so, I despise that moron.

2. if you feel like reading a biography...
...
"Adolf Hitler" by John Toland is a terrific (but very long) bio.
Doesn't pull any punches.
it's not something you want to read in one sitting anyway. I had to mix in some Kurt Vonnegut Jr.when things just got too goddamn dark and cruel.

3. About 90% of their programming is already about the military
Hell, they can't get through a single day without mentioning Hitler.

4. History Channel sucks. It's mostly WWII history. Hello, Mesopotamia??
I was so excited when we got cable because of the History Channel, but it seems like they don't realize history happened before 1933.

:grr:

It's really irritating, actually. What about medieval England? What about early American history? What about ancient Greece? The Mayans?

Nope--all we get is Hitler's greatest moment and military campaigns of the Third Reich.

5. They do...
You have to watch it in the morning. Recently, they have been running some documentaries from Britain's Channel 4.

Rome, Greece, Carthage, etc. It's all there.

8. No doubt
Soon they will go the way of the scifi and discovery channels. All of them are turning into the same thing: trading places spinoffs and commercials. It's been said before: TV is a vast cultural wasteland.

Hannibal & Alexander the Great, as well as Ben Franklin. Franklin is not so ancient, but it's still well prior to 1933.

11. THC is actually much more expansive than it used to be.
About a decade ago, when THC was first added in my area, it was all WW2, all the time.

12. what would the History Channel do without the German PBS?
Edited on Tue Jan-04-05 08:58 AM by Kellanved
It appears that about half of their shows are German public TV productions  . ("Hitler's Women", for instance)
