14. congratulations on your success...speaking from personal experience
I needed help, and statistically your chances of success increase quite a bit if you use some kind of nicotene replacement.

24. I quit cold turkey also.
I did it "alone" - no gum, no patch, no drugs, nothing.

I did, however, have moral support from loved ones, so I wasn't "alone" in that sense.

5. smoked my last March 7,2004!
I used to smoke 1.5 pack a day and thought I'd never be able to do it. Get through it hour by hour , eat lots of sweets and think food's going to taste much better soon ;)

17. If you were smoking a commercial brand
you also have to withdraw from the extraordinary amount of chemicals they put in them. While nicotine withrawal is painful, I think the added poisons make it much worse. It's been over six years for me, good luck and you can do it!

23. I did, but I was 12
I broke out in hives - it was a great way not to get hooked on smoking!

Good luck to you and everyone who's trying to quit.

Both of my parents smoked for about 30 years and they quit cold turkey. My dad did it on a bet - tossed the cigs out the window of the car, and never looked back. (I can't believe we littered so much back in the day.)

last time I quit (oh... look how freaking successful THAT was). But... I may need something to take the edge off. I have patches ready to be deployed of needed. I will try without first.

Congrats on 6 years for you!! :toast: and... Happy New Year!

35. Me!
I was going to quit today, but a holiday bout of bronchitis knocked me off 'em last Sunday.

We can do this!!!

I did quit for 2.5 years once, cold turkey, and a drunken reunion with old smoker chums slapped me off the wagon. It's taken another 2 years since then, but I'm going to do it! So far, I have had a few really intense cravings, but I would tell myself to just make it thru the end of the day. If I really wanted one that badly, I could have one tomorrow. It's gotten me thru today. If I think I'll slip, I will look into the patch or nicorette.

Have I told ya we can do this!!!

PM me if you want to try & keep each other in check. I find it helps to have a buddy.

Good luck! And, we can do this!!!

I keep trying to rationalize that MONDAY can be my quit date... and justify getting in my car to buy a pack. BUT I WILL RESIST!! FUCK a smoke would go perfect with my Starbucks dark Italian Roast coffee made super strong...

NO, must resist!

I hear ya! I was in my car. I was in CVS. I had my XL coffee. And I somehow managed to resist.

My body keeps telling me "just one won't mean I'm smoking again" - so I keep repeating "Wait till tomorrow. You can have one tomorrow." The thing is, when tomorrow comes, I'm so proud I beat one more day, that I somehow manage to keep going.

Listen to me, with all of 6 days under my belt. . .

We can do this!!!
