Inaugural Question
Just wondered if everyone would feel right about celebrating the Presidential Inaugural, in spite of everything if it were Bill Clinton or another Bill Clinton type, Al Gore or John Kerry, that the impending inaugural was for, rather than the Shrub or *.

1. I don't think many people here are "celebrating"
I personally am protesting.

4. What I meant was, I wondered if people would feel right about
"celebrating" the impending inauguration, if it were some DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT, like either Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry or even HILLARY CLINTON, who was about to be sworn in.

Never mind SWEARING IN *, I bet more people here felt like SWEARING AT him.

13. OK, I think I get it now...
What you are saying is: would we celebrate if things were this bad and a Democrat were elected, right?
My answer is: things would not have gotten this bad under a Democrat.
I'm not being flippant. I truly believe that this bunch is in office to take everything that isn't nailed down and screw the consequences. It is a very rare thing to be able to get as far as second-term President and not have the entire country ready to lynch a candidate that has done what * has done, and it is all due to media and Dominionist schizophrenics creating a smokescreen that can't be seen through by the average person.
So: yes I would, but I can say that because anyone else in office wouldn't be actively trying to destroy the country in order to line their pockets.

14. Yes, that's probably what I meant, that I wondered if people still would
have celebrated the inaugural, since the United States still would have been in relatively good hands, at least.

16. People would have more cause to celebrate because
they would have hope.

17. And like I said before, I am sure the Democrat would have outdone Allstate
Insurance, in having those people in good hands.

3. Only the elite will be celebrating.

Even some of the Bush supporters* cannot afford the price of attending his coronation.

You have to wonder if that little bit of reality slapping them in the faces will alter their opinions in any way.

*By Bush supporters, I mean people who raised $50,000 - $100,000 for his campaign. There were articles posted on DU recently.

5. My question is a purely hypothetical one about the inauguration as it
WOULD BE if it was any DEMOCRATIC President about to get sworn in and not about how it actually is with Bush getting sworn in for a second time around.

6. I think most Democrats would have more sensitivity, tact, and class ...
...than to spend $40 on a fucking inaugural when the economy is in the crapper and our soldiers keep dying in Iraq. At least, I hope the Democrats would have more class than that!

7. But with a Democrat in charge, I wonder if we wouldn't have been as likely
to have either the "incidents" of September 11th OR the IRAQ WAR.

I am sure the "deep doodooness" of the economy may have only been a TEMPORARY state of affairs too.

Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 11:56 PM by Ilsa
I hear that someone is going to toss dead chickens or worse at his limo.

No way are we going to listen to f**kface bungle another inaugural address.

With everything going on the way it is, I'd probably watch if it were Gore or Clinton.

20. Luckily I may be working and be able to ignore the whole thing and I
thought instead of partaking of the shameful event of *'s inaugural, maybe every American who didn't like him, at least ought to instead throw eggs at the White House or something.
