What would cause your legs to become swollen and hot?
My whole left side becomes numb at times and over the last several months my leg gets real hot and swollen. In the past few months when I am sitting in class my leg feels like it is tingling and it drives me nuts because I keep shifting in my seat and I know that people are noticing that something is out of place. It's kind of like your leg falls asleep but it isn't and it's hard to explain.

If you have ever had a test for a heat attack it feels like the needle that they run through your arteries and it feels weird which is kind of like tickling you and a sharp pain at the same time.

I hate Doctors so I don't go to them. I think that I might have to see one about this because I can't stand the amount of heat that is in my leg.

My Brother In Law had the EXACT same thing..and it turned out to be MS. GO to a doctor ASAP. He was young, got treatment and hasn't had an attack in years.

7. MS?
What kind of a Doctor did he go to? Are you joking me? Did he have problems with his eyes?

I have a hard time getting up on city buses and I thought that it had something to do with my height but I have never had a problem before and it couldn't be weight or anything like that.

Are you possibly having complications or a flare-up?

32. I have never had this before
So it must be something new or associated with something else. I thought that it might be bursitises or something like that.

I am getting ready to find out what it is or isn't.

37. I have been avoiding the Doctor
I use to live 40 miles from where I live now and I have put off my appointments for over one year. I don't know what it is I am avoiding it because I am afraid. :scared:

I am going now because I can't stand it any longer. I leave everything to the last minute. I thought that if i didn't think about it that it would go away but it hasn't gone away it's gotten worse.

If it is a blood clot, go to a doctor right now. You can die.

10. I do too, but you gotta go if it could kill you.
We don't really know what we're talking about, you know? We are random people on the internet. You need a doctor. Whatever you're experiencing, it includes a loss of blood flow to your leg and some edema. Neither of these are good signs.

There really isn't a choice here and you can't wait until Jan. 10 for treatment.

Why not call your sister or friend to go with you?

13. Do you have insurance?
If you do, your program might have an "ask a nurse" hotline you can call. Mine does.

I would consult a professional without delay -- that sounds like some potentially bad shit.

I wear two pair of heavy leotards in the winter, jean, t-shirt, sweater and socks.

I am as slow as molasses but right now I am getting ready and I will either walk over to the Hospital or hail a cab.

I have to get off of here in a few minutes because the retired MP is going nuts on me right now.

because it sounds like you need one. I have no idea what ails you and nobody else here does, either, unless they happen to be a doctor. Even if we all were a bunch of doctors, you still need to get treatment.

She was too young to die and I miss her badly. I have to get over it.

28. If it's been going on for awhile
it does NOT mean that it's fine. It means that it is WORSE! If it cuts off blood supply to your leg, then gangrene will wet in and if it breaks free, it will cause a heart attack.

GO TODAY!

22. Why did you post this at DU then?
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 02:19 PM by prolesunited
You had a dozen people tell you to see a doctor and that this was a serious condition. If you have no intention of seeing a doctor, why did you bother?

At what point will you change your mind and decide you need to take action? Last time when you had blood poisoning, people here convinced you to go and the doctors said they were right in urging you to seek treatment. That turned out OK. This time will as well.

You should be calling a doctor or checking into ER and not posting on DU about it.

36. I have a similar problem with my leg
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 02:59 PM by wxmike
It's been going on for almost a year but has been getting worse the past few weeks. I can't say I've had any numbness but I have had a pain in the lower part of my left leg ... And lately my leg has been getting hot and a little swollen. The pain comes and goes, though, and there have been times when I didn't feel any pain for a more than a week.

The responses to this thread have me worried to say the least. :scared:

40. Get it over with - you'll feel much better.
It's just a visit, and you'll know for sure.
The line may be shorter than you think, and when they triage, they'll determine what the priority is.

Once I reluctantly went to a hosptial for some palpitations, and as soon as I told the mergency room guy why I was ther, they whisked me in that moment on a wheelchair lickey-split. Turned out my condition was minor, but I slept much better knowing. I called my wife's uncle for advice, and he's the one who convinced me.

Don't get scared with the well intentioned concern here - but do take care of yourself. You'll be in good hands.
