Cloned cat sold to woman for $50,000

DALLAS - The cat's out of the bag - a North Texas woman paid $50,000 to have her kitty cloned.

Julie knew Nicky the cat was special.

So, the Dallas-area resident stored Nicky's tissue in a California company's gene bank. And when the firm, Genetic Savings & Clone, offered clients the chance to reproduce their precious pets for a price, Julie signed up.

This month, she became the first owner of a commercially cloned feline.

The copied cat - dubbed Little Nicky - was born in Austin, Texas, and presented to Julie Dec. 10.

Genetic Savings & Clone has not released Julie's last name but reports that the airline industry employee is enamored with her new pet.

"I see absolutely no differences between Little Nicky and Nicky," Julie told the company. The woman spoke through the firm and did not respond to requests for an interview.

2. We have a saying here in Texas
Some people have more money than they know what to do with and most of them have more money than they have good sense.

5. "But Little Nicky has picked up where his predecessor left off."
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 11:09 AM by MrMonk
"When Little Nicky yawned, I even saw two spots inside his mouth, just like Nicky had," Julie said. "Little Nicky loves water like Nicky did, and he's already jumped into the bathtub like Nicky used to do."

little spots - I think all cats have them. They connect to the cat's sinuses.

jumping into the tub -- The Nickies are Maine Coons. Maine Coons, as a breed, are fascinated by water.

People see what they want to see.

8. True our girl almost flooded out the apartment
she shoved the washcloth in the drain (she reached up to fish it off the rack) and then turned the hot water on full blast.

She also:
-opens my dresser drawers (she loves the sock drawer)
-has opened the oven when a towel was hanging across the handle
-opened every closet (we now have latches)
-opened childproofed cabinets
-changed the TV channel ( she is mesmerized by all the numbers on ESPN News)
-turned the computer on and opened the connection door

12. She probably wouldn't need to use the spellcheck either
like her owner does repeatedly.

11. In the immortal words of some one-episode character on Night Court
"For $50000, I can buy a whole boxfull of love . . ."

(Yes, there was an episode that covers a similar situation; a man taught a cat to breakdance; corporate suit followed about ownership of the cat; public defender "hid" the cat; corporation offers orig. owner money, gets up to $50K as PD argues that the money can't replace the love for his cat; guy says "give them the damn cat! For 50 grand, I can buy a whole boxfull of love.")
