Do you give your SO a gift list, drop hints, etc. ?
I always give my parents a list b/c they live 600 miles away and I only see them once a year. They have no idea what I have/want/need. However, I've always thought my SO should be able to buy a gift w/o such instruction. My bf disagrees and claims I'm impossible to shop for and has no idea what to get me. This is witnessed by his gift this year ;-)

So what do you guys do? lists? hinting? leave catalogs with pages dogeared in the bathroom? :-)

2. Yeah I guess I could do that, but part of the the fun of gift giving
is not knowing what you're getting.

7. it's a big list
one that gives her a choice on what to get me -- so I don't know what I'm really getting

3. nothing, I don't expect people to buy me gifts
I have never been comfortable with it - that is the absolute truth. When I say I don't want anything, don't need anything, I mean it. :)

13. I understand
I'm the same way Skittles. I truly love giving gifts to people but I always feel uncomfortable receiving gifts. I've always felt this way ever since I can remember. A friend told me that I have issues and that I should see a shrink. hehehe..

4. Yeah
I gave her one to disseminate to the family.

Got nothing on the list. I bought her gift a month or so ago. She's between jobs this week, and the company's holding up her final paycheck, so no paycheck for Xmas. So my gift goes on hold. Oh, well. She's happy, so I'm happy. :D

6. Well this year
We went together to shop for the kids and I said I want to pick out my own slippers because I really want a pair and I want to like them because I wear them every day. So he said okay. He said he really wants a beard trimmer and wants to make sure he likes it, so I said okay. We've never done that before, but we didn't spend hardly anything on Christmas this year so I figure we should get what we want after 25 years of wacko gifts.

Some years I drop hints and some years I just don't care. Depends on my mood.

8. Sometimes.
But most of the time people are uncomfortable giving me the things I really want, because my wants are so dorky.

One year I wanted a new pitchfork. Really. And who wants to gift wrap a pitchfork? This year I could use a couple of rolls of chicken wire, but that's another strange thing nobody would ever want to purchase.

Lord knows I don't need any bath products, perfume or jewelry.

We haven't for years. What does gift giving have to do with anything??

10. Yep.
I like really hard to find CDs, so I have to give him the exact titles so he can find them.

Examples this year:
Long Ryders- State of Our Union
Lime Spiders- Greatest Hits
Brian Setzer- The Knife Feels Like Justice
Wild Seeds- Mud Lies and Shame
Screaming Tribesmen- Greatest Hits

Plus, I told him I wanted to grill inside during the winter, so I'm getting a George Forman grill.

14. My S.O. is hopeless at buying gifts, so I directed him to a store
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 11:24 AM by Patiod
that is locally owned and sells high-end hand-made crafts. Stuff that's within reason (mostly silver jewelry vs gold jewelry, for example) that I wouldn't buy for myself.

It makes him happy to buy one nice thing every year, especially now that there's no anxiety about where to go or what to get.

He just told me flat out to buy him "Quantum Leap, Season 2" and he's already happily enjoying his gift.
