Kitten survives 440 km next to car engine
BERLIN (Reuters) - A German couple were shocked after a 440 km (275 mile) car journey to discover a surprise stowaway cowering next to the engine of their car -- a 6-week-old kitten.

The miaows of the tiny animal only became audible after Elisabeth and Dieter Gesehl had parked their car. "First of all we called the police as we feared for a moment that we must have run over and seriously injured a cat," the 64-year-old woman from Eggenfelden told Bonn express newspaper.

After checking under the bonnet, however, they discovered the unharmed kitten. The animal, which the couple have since adopted and named "Pussy", was soon back to normal after a few minutes of petting.

2. Darn, no pictures of the kitty.
Soooo... here's a gratuitous kitty pic. (Not actual picture of the cat.)

4. Had one of those once. Named her Rugby. She got banged up pretty
bad though, lost an ear, her whiskers, broke her back leg, some ribs, and in the end, was just fine and remained devoted to me for many years...

I heard her screaming in the parking lot of the shop I was working in. Her screams came from the car engine... so I popped the hood and dug around and pulled her out. The owner of the car never did turn up though.

Took her across the street to a vet who charged me next to nothing to patch her up.

5. What are they guys at Reuters doing?
I've looked it up, and it happened in Austria half a year ago. The Newspaper wasn't the Express, but the Passauer Neue Presse...

7. That happened to my cat 16 years ago....And I still have him
I drove 15 miles to a friend's house soon after getting the new kitten, visited a while, then drove home.

Upon arrival home my friend called to tell me my cat was at his house. He stays quite a distance from cars now, and I think that's part of why he has lived such a long life.
I live on a busy hi way and had such bad luck with cats up to that time, I never even bothered to name him. (Still haven't)

When this one finally dies I may duct tape the next one to my air cleaner and drive around awhile. LOL

8. That happened to me too (not nearly so far, though)
My old klunker had radiator problems, so I had to keep a supply of water & antifreeze on board to make sure just in case. One chilly day I drove to the 7-11 to stock up for a trip to my parent's house, I open up the hood to top off the resivoir, and a kitten hops out!

It had apparently curled up in a space behind one of the headlights. I was just glad (a) it wasn't a more agressive and angrier critter, and (b) it hadn't paniced and tried to get out of it's little nest (that would have been bad, considering the only place to go was a running engine).
