In a marathon - what is the percentage of walker/runners?

In a marathon - what is the percentage of walker/runners?
Anyone have any idea? I have never "walked" in a race but have never been in anything as long as a marathon. I run or jog every day but lately I see folks half my age doing this running/walking thing which my nephew told me he did in the Chicago Marathon. Is this commom - are most folks not running the whole thing anymore? Just wondering...maybe I should enter as I could probably do that (walk and run) - do you get nasty comments from the "real" runners?
