The owner will probably try to call you.

4. That works if you lose your phone in your apartment
I thought I lost my phone on the beach, bought a new phone, few months later found the old phone in the trunk of my car.

5. Sucks when you leave it on vibrate, though...
I've done that a couple of times. Try to follow a low-pitched intermittent buzz that ends after 5 rings (when voicemail takes over).

6. I lost my cell phone in an NYC cab - and found it again!!
Real Story!

9/12/02 - the day Bush was to address the UN about a war in Iraq. Fed up with all that crap I decided to hightail it to NYC and join in the protest outside the UN (even met up with NYC and Beetwasher).

Rushing around like I was and slightly exhausted from a long night of work, my cell phone fell out of my pockets. Here I am stuck in NYC and I've lost my cell phone in a NYC Taxi Cab. I pretty much gave up thinking I'd ever find it again and resolved to just head home without going to the protest. But as I was walking past a store somewhere I saw a sign they had phone cards - $5 each. So I bought one and as a fluke I called my phone.

The nicest woman answered my phone and said she had it. Gave me directions to where she worked so I could pick up the phone. Turns out shes an executive assistant for Russell Simons (of Def Jam). Sweetest lady out there.

I truly believe in the good of people. First, I never turn off my phone because if I do I can never hear the damn thing ringing. And second, before you give up hope on a lost cell phone - CALL IT. I think most folks will be kind enough to answer it and help you recover it.

7. I've been calling intermittently
and keep getting my wife's voice mail (it was she who lost her phone this morning), which means the driver of the livery cab she lost it in turned it off--or has been talking to Peru all day. If my wife knew what company he worked for, she could call them, but she hailed the guy on the street.
