As part of my re-introduction to society - I've discoverd...
I've turned into a bit of a jerk. See, basically for the last year. I've been mostly dwellig on my lonesome - unless in Vancouver with good long term friends. As a result, some of my social skills seem to be missing. Either that or I'm hanging out with uptight people.

Anyone ever experienced this?

1. No. I never had any social skills.
Maybe you've just grown accustomed to being alone a lot and you're not quite ready to fit in yet. I think this will pass.

5. Maybe you need to take the personality disorder test
that's floating around here in the lounge. It sounds like you've become anti-social. Are you under a lot of stress? That could trigger making rude comments to people.

11. You'd probably be a hoot in hicksville
Either the people you are hanging out with need to lighten up or you need to learn some new jokes. I think you're alright, HEyHEY.

From Annelei Rufus, The Loner's Manifesto

"... We prefer to be alone with our thoughts than out with a less-than-perfect fit." (p 93)

I've also found that the more time I spend alone, the less tolerance I have for the rest of society and their rituals of happy hour, shopping malls, traffic, and 'chit chat'.

But, I am a wierdo.

8. Are you hanging with a new crowd ?
Maybe you don't know them/read them well enough yet to be able to sense what's ok and what's not, before you say it.

7. As a loner...
I can say that when forced into social situations I come off as a total jackass. Maybe that's my true personality, but I don't think so. I generally will end up saying the wrong thing. Gaffes seem to be a natural part of existence.

10. This happened to me, and I've not quite recovered.
I'm quite good at faking it though.
After I got pregnant I went into a sort of self-imposed exile which lasted longer than it should have. Now I'm pickier with my company, and I'm more reluctant to small talk with people I don't know. And I have a kid, so it's hard for me to go to the PTA/other parenty things and put on the smile and bullshit. I know why and I'm working on it--before I was the queen of small talk and making people feel comfortable and welcomed and all that.

12. Has nothing to do with being alone
It probably has more to do with hanging out here. We're a bunch sick, twisted, perverted mofo's. :-)

:-)
Are you resettled and back online now?
