Which liberal stereotype(s) are/were you?
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 02:13 PM by TeddyKGB
I am generally lazy, do not like work, and once enrolled in unemployment insurance. I have been known to whine occasionally. I am godless. I hate George W. Bush.

I have never, however, eaten granola, worn Birkenstocks, or hugged a tree.

ON EDITS: I do not recycle. I have never drank a latte. I admire European-style socialism. I do not smoke pot - it just made me sleepy. I eat meat.

I hate * and the whole crew, majored in Liberal Arts, speak foreign languages, avoid fast food, have friends of every hue, am basically anti-religious, hug trees and tend to like Socialism, at least in some parts of the economy. I think that's about it.

5. Um....
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 02:01 PM by Moonbeam_Starlight
um....I don't think I fit any of them. I fit a lot of conservative demographics, actually. Most people assume I am until I tell them otherwise.

I have eaten granola, does that count? LOL!

I *think* I might have hugged a tree or two as a kid, but more in a spontaneous, "WOW I love this beautiful tree!" kid kind of way.

Ummmm........wow. Hm.

I guess that's it, unless I think of something else. Being liberal for me is more in my beliefs and my actions as a human than in how I look or my lifestyle, per se.

OH! I recycle! Does that count? Oh and I hate bush with all the fiery passion of a thousand hells. But that doesn't necessarily make me liberal--just smart.

I just saw another one...does highly educated make me liberal? And intellectual? Then yes and yes. But my non-highly educated, non-highly intellectual husband is a liberal, too. ?????

13. I am
actually concerned about poor/more misfortunate people than myself. I too can whine like there's no tomorrow. I will throw things at fundies that ring my doorbell and I too hate George W. Bush. Basically, I hate any of those Bush bastards. Also, I'd rather have my "hard earned tax dollars" go to the Welfare Queens than that shithole known as Iraq (not because of the people there, but because of the lies and horrible planning here).

I am not a Communist, nor am I pink as some rather enlightened republicans called me the other day..

chainsaw operatin' (Death to Box Elders!!)
Viet vet
redneck.

Heyyy, maybe I'm in the wrong party.

Except maybe for a few mitigating factors.
There is the psych PhD, for example.
And the war protest habit since 1968 and continuing right up through last week.
Mild civil rights activism beginning in '64 or so.
And I HAVE drunk a few lattes, although I don't make a habit of it.
And of course my socialist philosophy.

Edumacated, multi-lingual (at least enough to get me in trouble), Honda-driving, latte drinking, health-food eating, pro-choice, agnostic, nature lover.

I have hugged trees (as a youngster), love to garden, have my own compost pile, and drink mostly bottled water (because our tap water is disgusting). My Birkenstocks are generic ripoffs, but they still brand me upon viewing as liberal.

I have friends of all ilks...gay, straight, black, Latino, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Pagan, Christian, atheist, and agnostic like me.

We also recycle (no one else in our neighborhood ever puts their receptacle out...), have Green Mountain energy, and Working Assets for phone (and cell phone).

I'm a stereotype! Woo hoo!

yes, I have worn birks, but not anymore. I believe in evolution, and don't understand how there could be anything else. Not godless, but agnostic. I hate george W bush and everything he stands for. I would rather talk things over and compromise than have a total war and kill people.

I have been known to eat tofu. I care about animals and the environment. I believe people have the right to choose. I have gay friends. I voted for Clinton. I think hybrid cars rock, hydrogen cars are pointless. I am middle class. I believe a government of the people is more responsible and effective that total privitization. Corporate wellfare makes me vomit. Human welfare, although needing a little work, is necessary. Same with Unions.

27. i've worn birkenstocks, but my friend freaked out i have my nails done!
It really bugged her...... but my nails are a mess, i suck at doing them myself and i work(ed) in fashion. i don't go all out and buy a lot of clothes..... I get bored with that. I wear the same thing all winter and it drove my boss crazy, but w/ nasty ragged nails, i'd get called a slob! I'm supposed to look a little sophisticated or at least, groomed!
Ful disclosure, I recently started ironing my hair and feel guilty (am i betraying my irish roots?) but it looks really hot and I'm not going to stop now that I know how easy it is. Shit, I can finally brush my hair.

I'm also an entertainment girlie-man (I'm straight, but cry at tearjerker movies).

However, I'm an elitist, I'm not overly educated (only time I've ever been on a college campus was to take my GED, or go to a concert). I served my country in the Army for several years. Oh, and I think Bushh is a pompous pus-bag hell bent on destroying America :).

36. I..
consider myself better than the majority of people who voted for Bush (i.e., Elitist)

I enjoy talking about politics and philosophy

I read a lot of books

I'm majoring in PoliSci and *gasp* JOURNALISM

I think that Bush is a complete waste of oxygen.

I also admire Euro socialism to an extent.

I compare the war in Iraq to Vietnam in conversations.

I'm borderline agnostic. *shrug*

I'm for gay marriage

I'm "pro-choice," but don't refer to it in that way.

I hate bible-toting fundamentalist wackjobs, and like to get in arguments with the guy who is standing in front of Planned Parenthood.

I could go on...

38. Somewhat yuppie-style liberal
Not enough money to truly qualify, though :-)

I've received well-earned unemployment.
I've gone to DC to protest both Gulf Wars and the stolen election of 2000.
I've made granola, wear Birkenstocks, recycle when doable, am addicted to lattes, and enjoy fine wine and microbrewery beers.
I speak French and Hungarian. I admire European-style socialism greatly and visited Eastern Europe while it was still communist--and I didn't hate it!
I hate all war.
And, it goes without saying, I hate GWB.

OTOH, I am a Gulf War vet, a Christian, and I...umm...votedforbushsrtwice! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

So I don't exactly fit into a stereotype. I hope I've eradicated the shame of voting for Poppy by voting a straight Dem ticket every two years since 1996. I haven't voted for a single Repuke in all that time. Not at the local, state and certainly not at the national level.
