Entertaining is too much trouble.
I've just got doe with hosting the entire family for two drays of over-eating and over-drinking - and I'm exhausted!. Cleaning up afterward takes too much time, and I've got Turkey & stuffing leftovers coming out of my ears.

Now I'm finishing off a bottle of Australian Shiraz & some apple pie.

1. Here's the advantage of being a single guy who

has a small house and who can't cook. I go over to people's houses like your's and indulge myself and don't have to deal with the aftermath. Going with the alcohol is a good idea, though. That's what I'd do if I had to deal with your situation. Hell, that's what I do even if I don't have to deal with your situation. Cheers. :toast:

3. I *AM* a single guy with a small house.
But both my sisters think that its *perfect* for entetaining. Luckely, I didn't have to cook too much - they brought evreything over.

2. Ah yes,
Rosemount makes a good cheap Shiraz I cook with all the time. Of course, I must also drink it to make sure it's good. "A little wine for the sauce, a little wine for the chef; a little wine for the sauce, a little wine for the chef; before you know it, the chef is sauced."

I helped cook Thanksgiving dinner at my aunt's church. Good friendly argument about the nature of divinity while preparing food fit for the gods. And no clean up afterwards, they were so grateful for the help they ran me out the door before I could start washing dishes.

4. I know the feeling
Entertaining is not my idea of fun, either. Too much prep, too much aftermath. I know too many smokers and I don't smoke. Entertaining is way overrated. I'll cook and take a dish with me.
