I am attempting to do a scandisk but it won't work and I get this error messege: Drive Local Disk (C:) contained the following errors: Restarted 10 times because another program wrote to this disk.
My question is what the heck is writing someing to this drive?? My operating system is MS ME.. Help.....
Is to shut down the computer. Then turn it back on, and press F8 before you see the windows splash screen. You should be presented with a boot menu. Select safe mode. You could also select safe mode directly, by pressing F5 instead of F8 before the windows splash screen.
3. You might want to see what is running when you start up.
Go to start, Run...type msconfig and hit enter. when the screen pops up (SCU), look at the startup tab and see what's going on. I uncheck all of mine, all the time except Nod32..my anti-virus.
5. You could do a Cntl-Alt-Del and get down to the bare bones.
But the best and most thorough way would be to do it in "Safe" mode. If you have a USB mouse you probably will have to navigate with your keyboard. Expect it to take a couple of hours.
6. I receive this error frequently on one of my comps...
when attempting to do a defrag. I found that some of the programs running in background were the dirty dogs writing to the disk. As mentioned above, I did a ctrl-alt-del to shut down a few of the non-essential programs (such as Norton). I also disabled my internet connection to avoid vulnerabilities while Norton was shut off. This did the trick.
