Incredible String Band
Any other ISB lovers here on DU?

Nightfall o river of night flow through me
Washing thoughts of the day on your waters away
For the morrow that dawns never knew me

Nightfall nightfall folding her dark locks around you
Her eyes they have found you would show you
This new dream they're holding

O sleep o come to me you who are night's daughter
And I'll give you my eyes for the colours that rise
As time's echoes reflect on you water.

but it's been so long since I heard them I can't remember what they sound like precisely. I take that back the song "May the Long time sun shine upon you" just popped into my head.
Makes me think of another band that I know doesn't sound the same but has a similar sensibility that you rarely hear mentioned anymore --
"It's a Beautiful Day"

3. Hard to say what they sound like...
Incredible String Band was so eclectic, but they did have roots in Celtic/English/Irish folk mixed with some acid and Eastern and every weird instrument in the universe.

Beautiful Day (White Bird) had violin to augment their breezy California stuff.

Incredible String Band did "White Bird" also, but it's an entirely different song.

I'll bookmark this thread and get back to you on that.
I access a computer at work and have not been able to afford anything except an original powerbook until now, but I am buying a computer in the next couple of weeks at which point I can get uploads.

Thanks for the offer.

9. "Big Ted's dead, he was a great old pig..."
...actualy, I'm more of a Robin Williamson fan. ISB tends to be a little "out there" for my taste.

23. Woodcutter's Song: Lyrics
well, that's OK ... i'll have to search the net for the song ... here are the lyrics though:

Oak logs will warm you well
That are old and dry
Logs of pine will sweetly smell
But the sparks will fly
Birchs long will burn too fast
Chestnut scarce at all sir
Hawthorn logs are good to last
That are cut well in the fall sir

Surely you will find
Theres no compare with the hard wood logs
Thats cut in the winter time

Holly logs will burn like wax
You could burn them green
Elm logs burn like smouldering flax
With no flame to be seen
Beech logs for winter time
Yew logs as well sir
Green elder logs it is a crime
For any man to sell sir

Surely you will find
Theres no compare with the hard wood logs
Thats cut in the winter time

Pear logs and apple logs
They will scent your room
and cherry logs across the dogs
They smell like flowers of broom
But ash logs smooth and grey
Buy them green or old, sir
and buy up all that come your way
Theyre worth their weight in gold sir

25. Log Cabin Home in the Sky, Ducks On a Pond
Farewell sorrow, praise God the open door
I ain't got no home in this world any more

Wee Tam's my favorite next to Hangman's Beautiful Daughter, esp. 'Koeeoaddi There.' 'The Tune I Hear So Well' is perhaps my all-time favorite Robin Williamson song. I saw him perform at a small club many years ago and it was beyond wonderful.

This is the perfect time of year for Log Cabin Home in the Sky. :)

26. Kick for minotaurs
Also, I hear that the emperor of China used to wear iron shoes with ease.

I was aware of ISB back in the day, and actually saw them once at the Boston Tea Party (I remember they opened with "This Moment," and also did "Hirem Pawnitof" among a bunch of other stuff I didn't recognize because U wasn't out yet). But I didn't really delve into their work until the Ryko CD reissue of their first six albums. Which are wonderful.

Is there anything remotely like that nowadays?
